Interesting 4-seat coupé for £2k?
Discussion
Hi folks.
I had recently had my heart set on a W208 CLK to fulfil the above, and at the bargain end of the market it doesn't put too much of a dent in my house/toy fund. However, after going to look at one last night, it seems that my memory was playing tricks on me - the back seats were a lot smaller than I had remembered, which rules it out as a proper 4-seater. So, I'm throwing it over to you lot to help me out, if you can. I just really would rather avoid going down the road of something dull like a 3-series saloon.
Criteria:
- Must be a coupé
- Budget is £2k, strict. Any more, and I'd be better off leasing something.
- Must be automatic.
- Must seat 4 adults (not 2+2; not 2 children/amputees in the back)
- Must have enough oomph to avoid motorways being a chore
- I would like it to be interesting, if possible

coupe [x]
under £2k [x]
auto [x]
4 seat [x] (I think with most coupes anyone in the back is never going to be completely comfortable)
oomph [x] (FIVE LITRE ENGINE)
interesting [x] (nice colour, FIVE LITRE ENGINE, "seems to run ok" <- generally means ownership will be 'interesting')
Guys! Thank you for the flood of replies. From experience, I'm going to have to rule out the following for fitting 4 adults:
- Audi Coupe
- Corrado
- Soarer
- C70
- MX6
- 200SX
- Skyline
- 406
- E46
- Astra
I'm going to look into some of the older Mercedes options (what are the back seats of a W124 coupe like?) and the Saab 9-3.
Cheers!

I was going to suggest a Gen7 Celica as it fulfills the 'interesting' role and has a striking appearance, but the rear seats aren't comfortable for an adult to be in any longer than an hour.
The 406 Coupé suggested above is a good bet, these are massive inside and very very comfortable. For the money they're a bargain as nobody wants a nice V6 because they're only interested in em-pee-jees these days. I test drove a diesel and liked it, but the insurance for me was too steep.

Update. Looks like the Saab is out, as it's manual-only and I really need an auto (Central London traffic is no fun with three pedals).
Now looking at W124 coupés and Honda Accord V6 coupés.
Can anyone help me with any knowledge on either?
The accord is likely to be far more reliable and cheaper to run if that's any help? Now looking at W124 coupés and Honda Accord V6 coupés.

Have a look at this beauty!
Hardly a sporty ride but fulfills all the other criteria.
