Well after 11 years loyal subscription the last 2 years has been a pain in the Ass!!

It started with them sending 'The Gold Card'. For some reason this is just an excuse for them trying to double my membership, literally doubled.

Rang up managed to get the price down to near what i was paying. But guess what happened this year? Yep same again, rang up again to say i wanted to stay on my current policy, the guy got irate because i questioned the price against RAC and Green Flag. I wasn't rude, or shouted, the guy actually got offended because i laughed when he told me the price. I mean WTF? The guy then said 'ill cancel the policy then sir' then put the phone down, didn't even say goodbye.

A day after i checked my account to find they had taken the next months money. So called again asked if they could re-fund and was told i have to give 30 days notice and i couldn't have a refund even though i was not renewing.

I have never had an issue with the guys on the ground, they have been excellent. But the staff on the phone and there sales tactics are possibly the worst i have experienced. How did an historic 'Great British' company end up in this state?

Im off to find someone who will value my loyalty, any recommendations?

Best thing with AA is to negotiate the price and then pay in a lump sum on your card.

Yeah i have been told this but i know someone who had their card charged for a second year.

They set a renewal date which even if you cancel before that date (within 30 days of that date) you have to pay the 1 month of the renewal at twice the price!

Dodgy as hell if you ask me.

My renewal just came though - £275 if I paid with an annual recurring payment, or £400++ if I wanted to pay now and have it stopped this time next year. I said thanks but no thanks, cancel it, and on to their website for £218 and £70 cashback with quidco.

Autoaid - £45 for full relay and home start, no sales BS - has been around the same price for years now.

RAC were the same so we cancelled.

Get cover via a our bank account now which works out at about £10 a month I think but that also includes travel insurance, cover for phones/gadgets etc and some other stuff. Oh, and better interest rates.

I've been doing the same for a few years now. I've no idea if it works out cheaper or whatever, but it's worth it to not have to go through this hassle every year!

£39 in fact. Never had to use them but you seem to get a lot for your money and the only drawback is the need to claim for reimbursement and of course having to stick recovery costs on a card in the first place. By all accounts they are efficient at processing claims.

The rescue service. £75 for full european cover and home recovery. Can't fault them and had to use them 4 times this year.

This ^^^.

I can't believe the AA and RAC are still in business the prices they charge. We've been a member of Autoaid for years and never had an issue. We pay £39 per year for me and the wife in any car for a level of service comparable to the highest rates at the RAC and AA. We've used them once when the wife broke down with the kids 200 miles away. Great service and received our money back immediately and without question.

It's a shame as i said before the mechanics/drivers are great.

Its just the immature 'lets see what we can get away with' sales approach. These muppets are failing all the hard work of the guys on the road.

Going to give a few of them a call tomorrow to see which are introduction prices and which are fixed. Going to go with a fixed as I'm not playing the guessing game on prices every year or some sales guy just plucking a figure out his ass!
