I went to the Post Office today to get six months car tax and brought along with me my MOT and insurance certificate so they could be checked. The guy just took the tax form which was sent from the DVLA and my money and gave me the tax disc. He didn't even bother to check the MOT or insurance documents. I was quite surprised at this. Do they now just rely on ANPR and online checks etc??

I think it's all automated via the DVLA's databases now.

They still check the MoT certificate (or the chap at my local PO did yesterday).

The insurance docs aren't needed any more as ANPR and other databases will pick up any uninsured vehicles (cue hollow, cynical laughter).
