The hole in the armrest is just slightly wrong in that when I go for 5th I have to push it right up against the edge of the hole and it doesn't quite go into 5th fully.

Anyone else had this?

Is it easy to adjust the position of the entire armrest or best to get the armrest modified to have a bigger hole in it?

Thanks guys.

Depending on the year, it may be easy to tell if the centre console is in the right position.....got a pic?

I would check the condition of the engine/gearbox mountings.

Engine mountings should be good because one was replaced last year and had a major service at Powers last year so hopefully they would have picked that up but you never know I will get it up on the ramps and double check.

Cheers.

When i test drove my Tamora back in 2006 it jumped out of 5th a couple of times.
Not the end of the world, i still bought the car after renegotiating the price, expecting to rebuild the gearbox. On the way home i noticed the gear lever had rubbed the leather away on the console, i forced the console foward, and the car has never jumped out of gear again in the 7+ years ive had the carbiggrin

I am just wondering it someone has had the centre console off and not put it back correctly, I think the pre 53 plate with the wing nut fixing may be incorrectly positioned by about 15 mm......

That does sound like my car. Mine's a 53 with normal screws at the back although I've never had the armrest off. There is a little dent where the gear stick has been pushing for 5th so presumably its been like this for ages and before I had the car.

Might get it retrimmed and adjust when I put it back.

as ant said, easy to put this tunnel 15mm to far back if you don't get the wing nut in the ashtray hole aligned properly.

My wing nut is missing, it seems the bracket is broken on the underside of the tunnel, but two small screws are fitted either side of the forward tunnel 'wings', which seems to keep the tunnel in place.

As per later fixings....
