Got a dilemma, we're off for the weekend jaunt to the restaurant we had our first date at, in Scotland (we live in Lancs, long story), then I have to pick up some eBay stuff i bought from S Yorks, and we're going to do all of it this weekend

Plan is to drive up to Scotland Sat am, stop over, head to Sheffield, back over the Snake Pass to the M6 and home - looks to be about 550 miles round trip

Cars to choose from

1) S Type Jag, 4.0, has bluetooth, cruise control a large music collection and decent seats. st economy, only I can drive
2) Ford Ka, has a broken CD player, decent economy, either of us can drive
3) Toy car, not really in the running, would get boring before we hit Carlisle

The Jag'd be a more comfy option but I reckon it'd be £150 in fuel, vs about £70 in the Ka

Which would you choose?

The trip is a special one, no? In which case it's worth spending it in comfort and hang the expense!

A PHer asked this question?!

Get your coat, young man. While you are out, sell the KA and buy an MX5.

Lads, you're missing the bit about getting the Mrs to drive back and I sleep in the passenger seat with a stinking hangover.

Too much focus on the V8, you're all no help....I cant go drinking now!

It's in Kilmarnock, so I'm not exactly proud to be saying it!

No real PHer would even agree to sit in a Ford KA. Surely it would make your hangover worse? Shame on you.

Is the restaurant really worth the trip? 500 miles for an average meal would annoy me beyond belief.

If you have to go take the Jag. She doesn't want to drive and you're doing it for her.

(I voted stay home and get drunk, but would spend the petrol money on the best meal locally.)

I did 1500 miles in a Fiesta as it was our most reliable & modern car. I got home and within a month had bought a Volvo because I realised why small cars aren't good at long trips.
