further to a previous post, I am thinking of developing a 14cux interface, either using a PIC and creating a stand alone monitor/alert system, and/or with a Bluetooth interface to an Android app.

First step, does anyone have a cheap 14cux i can use on the bench. does not have to be fully working, maybe blown injector driver, or suspect intermittent, but something where the comms works (which I can verify with rovergauge).

thanks

Sounds like an interesting project FFMan, especially the Bluetooth part. Re the PIC option this link maybe of interest to you:

thanks for the link - interesting - very similar to what I had in mind - will digest in more detail later.

Interesting it looks like he opted to monitor some signals directly, whereas at this point in time I intend only to use diagnostic info, but there may be a good reason for his approach.

I'll see what I find once I start coding. I have a kind offer of an ecu to play with which will save me running up the griff at least in the first stages.

You need to think about the data you are going to process- The lambdas run really well with the outputs simply driving LED VU meters, so this is the physical voltages, not the trim the ECU supplies to compensate, which is like bolting the stable door. The raw data is a lot better as the human eye and brain work really well watching a shifting bar graph. You can pick up voltages outside any ECU trim values to monitor full load fueling, and in open loop you still get a reading. In terms of faults, dont forget the ECU has a MIL lamp if you have the correct Eprom. If you want to build some sort of useful display Id look at monitoring the MIL lamp input, decoding the serial fault code data, and live analogue Lambda display to start with at least.

with the best of intentions the offer of a partially broken ecu to develop on has stalled and I have loom and hardware and software all ready to go, but no ecu.

So same question again - anyone got a spare/faulty ecu I can have cheap to play with on the bench ?

thanks

I have a spare ecu, I'm in Essex so not exactly local to you but if you don't find one local pm me and we can try and arrange something.

Cheers

I have a spare ECU that you can borrow on a medium to long term loan, whilst I rebuild my Griff but I will need it back at sometime within the next 6 months or so. I am in Pangbourne, not that far from you but I am not back in the UK until 6th March.

If you don't get any better offers then let me know.

If you do take me up on this then I am very interested in what you are doing but have a limited knowledge of how you are doing it.

thanks pete for the offer. could be a plan, my only caution that it could just possibly get damaged whilst I am playing with it, so as you say, lets what else I can turn up but i'll keep it in mind.

Thank you for all the offers - I have secured a suitable ecu for the project for now so this thread is closed.

I will create another thread with progress in the coming days/weeks and would welcome input on direction this project could take once the basics are established.
