Hi all,

Does anyone know what the fastest, legal and fully approved tow car availiable would be. The best I can come up with is the e39 m5. This is purely put of interest, used or brand new and it doesn't matter if it's an estate, coupe etc.

I would have thought a 4x4 would be the best option.

Surely an MG with the Mustang V8 has a shout here? Not as quick as an E39 M5, but not a bad sleeper by looking like Grandad's runabout.

I used my Sierra cosworth to tow a boat but 280 bhp and a 1500kg was a bad idea quick as it was the head gasket blew after 120 miles !

I'm not sure the E39 M5 is fully approved to tow (at least in the UK). May be wrong but I'm sure this came up on an M5 forum and because of the quad exhausts the (removable) tow bar wasn't offered as an option, or something. You can make it fit but think you have to mod the rear bumper.

I had one with a supercharger, so it was as quick. Blowing warm hatches away at the lights while towing never got boring. biggrin

Fastest thing I've seen with a caravan was a BMW X5 M.

It was approved. My old M5 had the factory removable kit. Towed a caravan at a steady "ahem" moth without a problem.

Handy with the spanners?

1x written off E39 M5.
1x E39 petrol Touring.

result? A very cool, and fast uber practical tow car.

Or just buy a Merc E55 Touring from the early 2000's. :-)

Some interesting suggestions chaps, my first thought was one of the various Audi RS motors, but doesn't look like any of them can tow.
