Stalling !!

'96 Chim 4.0 L, all other aspects of driving fine, engine well serviced etc, but after changing down gears to a junction or roundabout (usually loads of people about!!) engine revs drop in neutral and dies. Is this common, any ideas ?

Could be wrong, but it could be your Lambda sensors, had the same problem on a BMW and that was the Lambda sensor, and had the same problem on the TVR, along with big clouds of black smoke on start-up and off the scale emmissions readings, Lambda's again, so worth a try

Does it tick over for a couple of seconds before the revs drop off? If so, it could be the stepper motor needs cleaning.

It could be lots of things ..

First things first "Clean the stepper Motor"

See if that solves the problem.

If it doesn’t. come back and we'll try again.

2) Check all hoses (could be a vacumn hose that's loose / dropped off)
3) Get the lambda's checked...

Mine did this for a while & was better after cleaning stepper motor but not solved then I changed the water temp sender Lucas SNB802 9do not be persuaded to use intermotor equivalent it's sh*te)& all my problems were solved & the car also ran so much smoother. This can often be resolved by just removing the part & cleaning with petrol & replacing as they become coated.

After my service a few months ago, i found that occasionally as i slow down to junctions etc and changed gears, the revs would drop to about 500rpm. Its never cut out, but sometimes i feel the need to blip the throttle to pick the revs up again.

It's a 4.0 also. I'm not too worried about it as the engine is smoother than it's ever been. Might be worried if it starts to cut out completely

Had this on my Griff - after much searching the amplifier on the coil was changed - job done.

Thanks to all: stepper cleaned, not too much grunge on it, but definitely keeping revs better. Will move on to sensors, coils etc if any further problems, will keep posting.
