any eye people here
Discussion
Just had a eye test because i feel like im straining my eyes using the computer or straining my eyes driving at night with car headlights etc.
My right eye was 0.75 short sited and my left eye was 0 short sited.
My right eye has +0.75 astigmatism and the left +0.25.
The axis on both is 180.
The optician said its up to me if i get glasses which has really confused me. He wrote a prescription and i dont know whether getting glasses will help me or not with them very mild levels??
What do you guys think?

If I were you I'd try it, you can get some made up fairly cheaply online, if it works you could get some better ones and keep the others as spares. A lot depends on whether you can take the hassle of wearing them although that's less of a problem if you wear them all the time, carrying reading glasses around all the time is a real nuisance.

Do you think they would make any difference? Going to buy some regardless(I'm not an optician, but I do spend a lot of time at the optician's)
The prescription isn't too strong, and added to that the astigmatisms are on the same axis with a small distance between them, which is normally within the brain's capability to sort out.
However, if it's troubling you (as it sounds like it is) you should give them a go. As was suggested buy some cheap ones online to see if they help, and if you think it's useful to wear them full time you can always buy some nicer ones.

I'm an Optometrist, and it's one of those prescriptions which are really hard to advise on ,sorry! Most of us don't want to be accused of supplying unnecessary specs!
But particularly on night driving small prescriptions particularly short sighted/astigmatic ones can certainly help a lot with glare from headlamps (also get lenses with an anti-reflection coating). In poor light levels your pupils are bigger so light doesn't focus as well on the back of the eye.
It can also be helpful to balance the 2 eyes up vision wise to improve depth perception and judgements.
Have you had an eye test previously? If you have always had a difference between the 2 eyes it will probably make less difference than something that has just developed.
Also regular breaks if you in front of a VDU all day 20/20/20 rule every 20 minutes look up at something at 20ft (i.e distance) and give 20 blinks

A few years ago I got a very similar prescription (sounds identical I think). I too was only really noticing it when driving at night and if I was tired. I hardly ever wear them, but they're there if I need them.
Did your eyes get tired using computers more so than other people seemed to?? Did the glasses help im guessing then?Coco H said:
I think my presciption is similar except for me my distance vision is fine and astigmatism somehting like 0.75 and 1.25. I can spend 12 hours a day on the computer so I wear my glasses for that and long distance driving.
Do they help? In what way? Sharper images? Less sensitivity to light?Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
