Ive currently got a C63 amg and have previously owned a 997 c2
Im looking ahead and am hoping ill be abke to spend c £70k on my next car....im hankering after a 991 c2s or a v12 vantage
Id be most interested in hearing ownership experiences of the 991 c2s or c2 or c4 for that matter!!

Accomplished that the 991C2S is, the general consensus is that it has lost its sports car feel compared with the 997, and is now more sports GT and rather synthetic partly due to the rather inert electric steering compared to the neutrality (in 2wd form) of the 997 hydraulic steering.
I am currently using a 991 C2S PDK coupe alongside my 997 GTS PDK coupe 2wd and find myself choosing the 997 GTS most of the time largely due to it being far more involving as a true sports car plus sounding far better as well.....

compared to the 997, but I wouldn t have anything other than a PDK 911 although appreciate some people prefer the strange stick and third pedal arrangement of old...

I have had both Gen1 and Gen2 997 and now have a 991 PDK C2, didn't go for the C2S as frankly I got a great deal and the C2 was (considerably) cheaper. I have Sports Chrono Plus and, wow it makes the car fast.
Is it as good as the 997? By some considerable margin, I note the comments of the GTS above but don't agree. I loved my 997s and agree the manual is the daddy of the modern 911 gearboxes but the 991 PDK is the best dual clutch box, (IMO) and suits the slightly manic engine of the C2. As an overall car the 991 has a split personality, (option dependant). In normal driving mode it may not be as sharp as 997, but it is a better cruiser/daily driver. However, push the Sports Plus button and it all changes, the dynamic engine mounts are key to this. For me, and this is subjective, the 991 is better a better car to run everyday, whereas the 997 less so, (but still an outstanding car). In fairness, I have not driven them back to back as av185 has, I sold my last 997 nearly 2 years ago.
Lots of better drivers than me say the steering is better in the 997 but honestly I just don't feel it/agree. Maybe the 997 has 5% more feel, but my C2 991 does 0-60 in just over 4 seconds, while returning 30 mpg and is very entertaining on the twisty stuff, more so than my 997s. Seems like a win win to me.
I also had a C63 and to say I hated it is an understatement. The difference in driving it and the ownership experience, are not in the same galaxy let alone playing field as Porsche. The only way to truly decide is to drive one, the balance of a 991 (any) from a C63 will blow you away. Interestingly my 350bhp 991 is quite a bit faster than my near 467bhp C63..... But, best of all it just feels like a real sports car v a sports coupe.
For £70k you can find later plate C2S but I urge you to consider a C2, while it is 50bhp down on a C2S, you wouldn't notice it and you might get a newer car for less money.

The ownership experience must have been sweetened by a £2k profit on selling the car!av185 said:

Interesting what you say re the Cayman....I always discounted these mainly due to its pig ugly looks compared to the Carreras.....but have been using a 3month old Cayman S PDK for a few days and would say the car is as quick as a Carrera S on most twisting and fairly rapid A and B roads....only the top end where theres a notable difference....

It made the conversation with Mrs Findtomdotcom that much easier....Cayman or 911? Well the Cayman is an outstanding car, (had a boxster a few years ago). But it's not a 911 and for some (like me), a 911 is still a 911, (plus I have kids)....
To be fair, I think that a short test drive does not show the 991 at its best, I had mine on test drive for 3 days before I really fell in love with it.
But to each their own, some will love its dual personality and some will not. It is a very expensive car and when measured against cost v performance, the Cayman does start to make a lot more sense.

a Cayman R over a GTS after back to back test drives but after having driven 991S and new Cayman S both with pse back to back and driving the R to and from the test drive I was Pretty impressed with the 991.
All old fashioned 3 pedal set up.

The 997nGen 2s are not as vociferous as the Gen1s with sport exhaust.....

The GTS has sports exhaust as standard and I find it is as vocal as the Gen1with sports exhaust but with a better 408 bhp soundtrack.....

You might not think so, but I can promise you the AMG will not keep up with a C2 in a straight line (it is close), let alone in corners. I'm not saying that to willy wave but merely to make a point, the way a 991 deploys the power is the key to its speed, that and the faster gear change, better dynamics etc..findtomdotcom said:

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. A quick google of the amg and carrera 2 991 and all results show 0-60, 0-100 & 0-150 the amg is much quicker and the in gear times favour the Merc even more. On paper the AMG is quicker than the Carrera s also. This doesn't mean I'd rather have the Merc though. LOL, well that's your prerogative. But from someone who has owned both I can assure you I am correct, I'm a bit old to be making stuff up...
Truth be told I too was a bit surprised, I had assumed they were very close (and that the AMG would be just that tiny bit quicker), but a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to test them side by side. I should also quantify my C2 has PDK and Sports Plus. If there is one option I can't recommend enough, it is Sports Plus!!

I think it all comes down to how it puts the power down, like others have said. You kind of take this for granted in a 911, but when moving back to rwd (front engined) on anything but a perfect surface you soon remember.
A long time ago i had a 1M coupe, and that thing just could not get its power down, TC would light up at any chance. For the performance stats you get out of a 911 from the power, you would need a lot more elsewhere.
Also PDK and SP help.
