Have had a particularly stubborn bit of damp carpet on the driver's side of the transmission tunnel, which I initially thought was coming from round my windscreen. Had that replaced (cracked anyway), and it's still there, plus have noticed that expansion tank is now routinely empty after being filled to over half full after only half an hour's drive or so.

Therefore suspect I'm losing coolant somewhere, as level used to stay constant at about the weld. Putting two and two together, I'm thinking perhaps one of the hoses to my heater matrix (which I've only recently started using in anger) is perhaps leaking, losing coolant which is wetting my carpet.

Anyone have any idea exactly where the matrix is, and how to get to it? I've looked in the bible, but it seems quite quiet on the topic... I'm hoping this is not going to need Dash removal!

It's a '97 450. Any ideas/info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Have a look at this:

Topic discussed two days ago.

You'll find the heater matrix on the left hand side, plus pipes, above passenger knees. I'd say your leak was from bulkhead/right hand side under bonnet/brake/clutch reservoir and cable area.

Thanks for that...

Will have to get better at using the old search facility!
