Judging by your profile your car is a year older than mine so I'm guessing you have the standard 2 pot calipers front and rear with solid discs as opposed to the Caterham branded 4 pots and ventilated discs or other after market such as hi-Spec etc.
If the former i.e standard set-up then I use Mintex 1144 on the front. There are two options, ref MGB533M1144 which is the 'normal' pad and MGB535M1144 which also fits the standard caliper, but it has a larger pad area which is a good thing but will need new discs.
For the rear, no idea until I check as it's a long time since I changed them, but I'm pretty sure they're just 'standard'. Same pattern as these. If using 1144s many of us use the uprated rears to give a better balance.
I use the 'larger' 1144 pads on the front with standard rears and find with my Zetec that this balance is fine for sprinting/hillclimbing and touring etc.....

My understanding is that as the Caterham is overbraked by the rear as standard, uprating the front pads helps to adjust this indifference. Mintex 1144 on the front, leaving the rear pads standard. This seems to be the common setup with the standard brakes.
Does anyone know what the standard rear pads Caterham sell actually are?

Hi All,
Thank you for the reply's, I got the pads off and definitely think they could do another year....! (see pics below)
Could some one confirm which model these are, I'm not upgrading the fronts at the moment so I'm going replace these with something 'middle of the road' if you see what I mean. A slight upgrade but nothing serious, maybe EBC pads?
Anywhoo! I could do with knowing what pattern these are so I can order some.
Any help really appreciated.
Ed.

I have ordered these:

I assume they are correct...?

Sorry, I'm too late, but-
-I and many others have had wildly inconsistent results with Greenstuff
and
-Uprating the pad material at the rear and not the front is a really bad idea, especially on a Caterham (even tempoarily).
In my experience, the best results even on race cars with your braking system were acheived with upgraded front pads and standard rears, as Aeroscreens, GingerbreadMan and Rob GT81 agreed unaminously in this thread.

Hmm, thank you for that. I will be replacing the fronts at some time in the future but I'd put yellow stuff in then so there would be the a step through performance.-I and many others have had wildly inconsistent results with Greenstuff

I did listen to the previous posts as I'd initially thought I should replace the rears with yellow so that I would end up with the same all round.
Granted I'll have to keep an eye on handling under braking!
Some years ago, when I tried green stuff, I found them very unpredictable.
Yellow stuff are a more track based pad that need some heat in them to work correctly.
Fronts that don't work when they are cold, and rears that may or may not work, does not sound very good to me!
Why, when most suggest Mintex, are you thinking of EBC?

In answer to the Mintex question - because the EBC pads were half as much money.Yellow stuff are a more track based pad that need some heat in them to work correctly.

I appreciate all the worry about 'balance' etc. I enjoy and will drive the car to it's own characteristics so will work with what I have and when I replace the front pads which I appreciate are still the most important I will invest good money, probably in Mintex as they have had such a good review. The EBC Greenstuff pads are not really a performance pad so I can't see them being noticeably better/worse than the originals (not the bits of metal I removed!).
My main problem is I have bought a car which I am aware needs allot of TLC, I have done some pretty major work on it and the money pot is not bottomless so I now have to be sensible for a few months.
Thank you for all your help.

If budget is tight, send the EBCs back for a full refund while you still can. This has the added benefit of saving you changing the rear brake pads for a second time when you get fed up of the severe brake imbalance trying to kill you. Even the Green Stuff pads are a much higher performance pad than you want to fit to the rear. You think fitting Yellow stuff pads to the front will redress the balance but it won't. If you do fit the pads, you will have far too much braking effort at the rear and the result of that will be the car trying to swap ends every time you brake moderately hard in anything but a perfectly straight line on a perfectly flat road.
You might imagine you can drive around this but driving a car which is overbraked at the rear is misery.
I used to use my car daily. I recall 2 times that I had to brake really hard, not through the choice of driving, but through not wanting to crash. Both times the rear swung right out causing me not only to be braking hard but also trying to turn into the back end as it is now over the white line in the opposite lane. An unexpected side effect of a hard lock on of the brakes. Luckily my rear end never ended up in immediate danger.
Fun times all round.
