"Left overs" on cooking programmes
Discussion
Why are these recipes always so laughable.
Step 1: Take leftovers
Step 2: Go into a "larder" the size of a London studio apartment and take out a range of rare & expensive ingredients
Step 3: Add in a load of freshly bought produce (locally sourced and organic are best)
Step 4: voila, you've saved 8p worth of bread and now you've got a feast.
I think Nigel "liven up your corned beef hash with a dash of saffron and a shaving of black truffle." Slater is the worst offender

Left overs are what you bought at 11.30pm on a Friday night and eat the remains of for breakfast on the Saturday morning, washed down with that last half can of lager sitting next to your computer screen that is too good to waste.

PH spoof video anyone? Who looks most like Nigel Slater?

What amazes me is how they have enough left overs out of a standard sized roast chicken for a second meal.
Surely you can make a risotto out of a leftover chicken?I agree about Slater, though. He would make a 3 bird roast dinner for 12 out of a leftover chicken.

We'll usually get 3 meals for both of us out of a small chicken from the butchers. Roast one day and then a couple of days of either cold chicken, or in a pie or pasta sauce. We struggle to get a second day out of a supermarket chicken the same size though.Agree on some chef's idea of "store cupboard" items though.

While I agree Slate is a bit OTT with his "left overs", to be fair he doesnt know what you have in YOUR larder.... the same goes for that old BBC2 program...with whatshername from This Morning, Fern Britton? They would always say "and our standard larder" for the chefs to then make a Michelin Star- quality meal! Always did wonder what was in those larders. It just so happens I DO have a tin of beans, corned beef, potatoes, saffron and truffle butter... (awful tasting stuff, btw)....

I know someone who ate a pizza off the floor...that was face down...
next to a bin...
a public bin on the pavement.

He was mildly drunk.

Is it bad that I don't have any beans, corned beef or potatoes but do have saffron and truffle oil? When did I become this middle class? Time for another cup of Darjeeling to drown my sorrows...
