Hi,

Insurance renewal time for my Chim and last year it was cheaper to get a 'normal' policy with zero NCB than it was to get a classic insurance policy due to me having no experience of TVR's.

Well I've (or will have) had it a year at renewal so am going to try the following list:

Footman james
RH insurance
Mannings
Heritage
Lancaster
Adrian flux
Classic line
Henderson and Taylor

Is there anyone obvious I've missed?

The car is a 450 Chim, not garaged but kept in sage area and I'm a clean risk. The car has minor mods (Stealth cam, trumpets, smooth bore elbow, decatted).

Not too fussed about agreed value unless it is being placed with a Lloyds underwriter.

If I should be avoiding any of the above, please feel free to PM me to avoid any naming and shaming.

Thanks

Got mine with Performance Direct for £350 and they were considerably cheaper than the above mentioned. I didn't realise that when most companies sell you a 'classic' policy they do not allow you to build up NCD. Performance Direct do, and the premiums come down every year as a result. Started at over £600 4 years ago and will be hoping for less than £300 next year based on garaged, 3000 mile limit.
In previous years I have commuted in the car maybe twice a year and didn't think having this included on the policy would effect the premiums, I took this option off the policy this year and saved £80!
They also allow you to fix the value if you get it agreed/rubber stamped by a reputable TVR specialist.

My renewal from Classic Line (Equity Red Star) is £465, but that's for a modded 5 litre, unlimited mileage and track days.

Aviva, all day long.
14 years, and they were there every time I needed them. No hassle, no bull.

I have used Nowell and Richards to get me the best deal/renewal with Aviva the entire time.
Ask for Karen, she is a gem.

Well I just put my details into Lancaster online. £450.

That's a bit more than I was expecting but does include all mods however minor.

I don't think so. My Jag is on a classic policy and doesn't accrue any NCD. May be worth getting a quote from them, privilege were roughly the same price too.

I think next to other sports cars of similar age TVR`s are a bit on the heavy side when it comes to premiums .

My MG valued around the same as the TVR cost me £89 a year and my mates 30k Porsche 993 ,think it`s a 97 costs him £190.furious

I have my Chim on a classic policy and drive a company car. Neither accrue NCD as tbe policy is heavily adjusted for limited miles, does not include commuting and is £340 per year, 35yo Ops Manager

I do agree Daz. My mate, similar age and risk, has a 911 (964) and pays about £150/year.

They don't want you do they? Mannings for me the past 3 years, agreed value no extra, track cover as standard (I don't do it), 2nd car, revert to laid up cover during SORN for a good saving. A very good and personal service, I think they just deal with Fezzas, Porkers and Tivs.

No mention of the age but being 15 y.o. is a cut off for a lot of firms regarding 'classic' insurance. A policy like that requires no NCB and you can usually get guaranteed value in case of the worst happening rather than just the 'market' price.

Mine is a 2000 model so I used Direct Line and my 9 yrs NCB last year to get cover for under £280. Hoping not to have to claim of course because it will be market value only.

Lockton may be worth a try. They gave me a great deal on my Boxster because of a scheme they do with the owner's club but the quote I got for the TVR under 'classic' cover was more than with Direct Line.

After a sneaky favour...

Can someone post the phone numebr for Mannings as I can't get their details from the website due to company firewalls.

Thanks
