evan halshaw used
Discussion
Pretty certain one our sale persons used Subaru STI came from evans halshaw and he got their extended warranty and had lots of trouble when the chocolate 2.5 engine went pop. Lots of problems with warranty as serving irregularities (by EH) and who's paying for the engine rebuild etc / basic dragging of heals. Car was off the road for over 6 months while he got it fully sorted.

Im looking at a audi used. It has full service history, 1 former keeper and the guy said it was from stratstone. Are Evan Halshaw good dealers?
IMHO it's more relevant to ask whether it's a good car than dealer. Most cars are very reliable these days. So once you've bought the car you're unlikely to speak to the dealer again.Hit and miss.
With such a large group there will always be good and bad, I used to work for Reg Vardy (bought by EH) and the one I worked in was dreadful.
I'd have bought from them, but would have trusted them no more than I would a Gumtree private ad and would have checked the car very carefully...

I've had nothing but issues, so much so I am going to court with them (Stratstone), seems a lot of people have had issues with a certain few branches.
My neighbour has had several Mercedes and a Smart from Stratstone, and had no issues with them at all, think they are on the 4th car from them.

Aren't EH one step up (just) from Arnold Shark?
In my internet hunting travels I get the impression that the prices are competitively priced and they use the 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 reduced price system. Having never bought from them, I get the impression that they major on finance/GAP/warranties/everything else apart from selling a car.

Customer service is absolutely shocking, it took me over a month to get the spare key they promised with the car and they dicked me about with a couple of other things too. Tried to sell me the warranties/GAP insurance etc etc which I politely but firmly declined...

This! Expect to be inundated with texts/calls/emails trying to sell you this s
t (plus service plans) long after the first time you said no to them.andymc said:
and of course the £99 imdemnity they charge on all used cars
Which I told the salesman to remove from the paperwork immediately, following an agreed price that hadn't included it.They are just metal shifters pulling the same stunts as their competition. If the basic deal is good go in clear headed and wary of the 'added costs'.
I bought my current car from EH Milton Keynes, I didn't appreciate the sales guy and his boss treating my wife and I as idiots for not taking their Gap insurance, paint protection etc etc. Also, there were some issues with the car which agreed to sort before collection, but they didn't do a great job. There were a few issues after I purchased the car and EH didn't want to know or wouldn't even entertain any help despite the 'warranty', they just didn't seem to care.
Bit of a rambling post, but needless to say I have sworn to never go to any EH again. As other have said there may well be good ones but I won't be seeking them out.

In hindsight perhaps I was rather naive having not bought that many cars in my life and not many from dealers either. I learned quite a bit from the experience and I think I'm better prepared for when visiting a dealer in the future (just not EH).My experience of EH is positive. I bought a car from their West Bromwich garage and it had lot of faults with it. The team there couldn't help enough, took the car back, found me a very good alternative and in the interim lent me a nearly new car to keep me going.
Guess it's all down to personalities really.

I'd avoid them. I have had three run ins with EH when looking at cars with or for others and on all three occasions it has been the same. You see a car. You like a car. You have a car to P/X. They run the figures and come back with a cost to change much higher than you expected. They break down the figures and you discover they are valuing your P/X about 20% less than the other dealers you have been to. They then bleat on an on with their company line on how 'they always have the cheapest car and check local prices daily to make sure' - you point out that if their car is £500 less than garages Xs car but garage X offer £1500 more for your PX that garage Xs car is actually £1000 cheaper for you. They fail spectacularly to grasp this simple concept. You leave p!ssed off.
An example.
EH offered a mate £5k in PX for his Leon FR - No other garage offered him less than £6800. He traded at Arnold Clark for a near identical car to EHs and the cost to change was £1400 less.
