This is my beautiful, low mileage (61k) mechanically faultless XJ6 3.2 Sport.

To sell or not to sell this is the question - on previous occasions I've been insulted on behalf of the car at the stupid offers... Is there a market for these that I haven't found yet?

That's lovely. Unfortunately the only people who appreciate older cars like this are enthusiasts so limits potential customers. I'd buy it like a shot if I had the cash . Keep iti would

If its as good as you say then you need to find an enthusiast buyer willing to pay a premium for a really good quality car. You also need to reconcile yourself to the fact that if you do sell and end up regretting doing so it'll be very hard to find another one in similar condition.

Most reasonably knowledgeable buyers would consider an X300 as the best bargain XJ Jaguar you can buy and you need to attract them to the virtues of your car with a well written advert and good quality pictures.

Advertise it in the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club via jagads or Jaguar World magazine classifieds.

I was in a similar position a few years ago with my 3.2 exec, bought it for a good price in good condition and went trough the car sorting all the little niggles out, the Ariel, clock driver seat bolster, right down to a full correction and machine polish. It looked stunning, then I got offered a good price for it and like a fool, I sold it. I still regret it three years on! Make sure you really want to sell it, because for what they sell for, there is no equal. I have driven and owned some very nice cars before and after that Jag, but nothing could live up to that car. I keep looking in the classifieds for XJRs and see X300s going for silly money and I get very tempted. If you do decide to sell, make sure it goes to somebody far, far away, because when you see another person driving it with a grin on their face, it'll break your heart.

Thanks Steve,

When I last advertised it (12 months ago) on Autotrader and ebay I crafted a great advert (or I think I did) but was holding out for the right buyer. Turned out the people who look for X300's on these sites were comparing it to examples with twice the mileage, dodgy interiors and bad paint so like I said were making crazy offers barely over the £1200 mark... I'm not sure I want to sell it but if I could find the right place to advertise it i.e. jagads or Jaguar World I would reconsider it after doing some research as I want to reduce the number of cars I have.

The decision to buy it in the first place (around 2 years ago) was very spur of the moment, I just couldn't resist the opportunity of owning it for a while - problem is I now feel very responsible for it and making sure it's next owner is the right person.

It's not - sorry to have offended you.

I'm not sure I want to sell it, the intention of the post was to get some advice on the the right place to advertise it (as Jaguar Steve alluded) i.e. jagads or Jaguar World.

What do YOU think it's worth? TBH if someone offered me £1200 for mine I'd rip their arm off, yeah, it's done 30k more than yours but it is a higher spec, there's not too many people with a little money to spend who want to buy a car that does 18mpg.

Mine

Humper, If you wasn't so far away, you would be ripping my arm off! I would easily pay £1200 for that, it stunning. Both cars look fantastic.

To be fair I'm not selling it so i haven't tried. The problem with old Jags is as i said, if you have £1500 or so to spend on on a car, a big gas guzzling Jaguar is unlikely to be your first choice. Yeah, there are people out there who will, but there's also a lot of folk out there selling Jags.
I wish the op luck.

On the other hand there's also people who prefer the timeless beauty of the classic XJ design to the Fuguly new one, who want a reasonably simple car to repair that's not going to need a £1500 control module replaced and reprogrammed by the main stealer when the glovebox light stops working or one that requires a Phd in in-car entertainment to listen to the radio.

They won't accept throwing thousands of pounds a year down the drain in depreciation either.

So, yes there are people who prefer to buy cheap XJs, even if they can afford a much more expensive one.

Jaguar Steve speaks a lot of sense (as historic posts demonstrate on Jags).

I've just started having a browse at Jags as an addition to my Merc W210 CDi daily smoker. It would be purely for weekends/special occasions so I am not ruling out an XJR (I know this is slightly o/t). So to spend £1,500-ish on an XJ of some flavour is not untoward IMO, especially if it's not a daily.

I don't doubt it(well I wouldn't, as I am one wink ) but I reckon the majority don't, therefore it becomes a buyers market. I went to look at a similar mileage to the op's not long ago, from a dealer, £1200.
It was well tidy, tbh the only reason I didn't buy it was it was an Exec, and if I'm changing mine I want all the toys wink
