To tint or not to tint?

I'm thinking of getting a very mild tint put on my Targa to keep the direct sunshine off my little girl when she is sitting in the back. It's seal grey and I am only thinking of a 15-20% tint to both side windows and the rear screen

Is it a good or bad idea?

I wouldn't, but only because I don't like tinted windows.

If you lived in a sunny climate then it may be worth considering , but the UK ?

Tint works great on the back of the golf and looks a lot better than those horrible sun visors you can get. He's always been ok in the back of the 911 although it's a coupe, that said don't think if this wasn't the case I'd want tints on it..

Taking a different point of view, a 20% tint (allows 80% of light to pass through) is the equivalent of 1/3rd of an f-stop on a camera lens. I would doubt that it would have much effect but I could be wrong.

Additionally, it may (or may not) attract the attention of the boys in blue even if it is a legal level of tint.

Where do you get that idea from fella? All my road cars have limousine tint on the rear and rear side windows for security and to keep the dogs cool and it's never been a problem......

When it gets too hot just tell her to sit in the after market sub-woofer?

Tinted rear windows do not fall under the legislation. Plenty of vans out there with no rear side or rear windows. As a carrier of little kids anything to improve their comfort and your sanity.

Perfectly legal to tint rear side and back windows. It's when you do the fronts you may get in bother..

Obviously I want it to look subtle and not pimped but to be honest I haven't seen many 911s with tinted windows in the flesh so not sure what it will look like; obviously being a targa the roof is already tinted black so not sure if tinting the glass will enhance it or make it look dodgy. The important bit is that it makes the car a more pleasant environment for my little girl - if she's happy then we're happy!

hi I have had most of my cars/vans tinted for either looks, safety and security, it is a matter of individual taste of course but also on the security side I have seen someone hit a side window with a hammer and it would not break. 20% tint really is not much tint I am sure you can have 20% on the front and 80% on the rear qtr.'s and rear screen. i bought my c4s already tinted and although the fronts are a bit dark i have had no problem with the police
