Austin 3 Litre spotted!

Hi,spotted an immaculate Austin 3 Litre in Ellon on Friday,pristine blue coachwork and the straight six sounded amazing.Proper British cars for proper British Blokes,its probably rarer than my Gordon
Keebles!

And it had the same door panels as the Maxi and Austin 1800 !!

Yes it did but there the similarity ended,rear wheel drive with the lovely BMC 3Litre engine.A super car and I reckon they are rarer than my GordonKeeble now.I`d love one!

According to How Many Left there's less than your GK, though if i remember correctly apart from being an 1800 in the middle was the engine not the same as the Healey 3 litre? Which would go part way in explaining their rarity( that and they weren't that popular when new)

I remember back in the late 70'2 I was given one by the garage as a 'courtesy' car whilst my Alfa was in for more warranty work! It was quite an old car then and high mileage ( for a 70;s car).of about 50,000. God did it go after my little 1.2 Alfa Sud. It handled quite well and had ACRES of space in it. Had that lovely smell of expensive leather too.
I thought it was FWD not RWD though? Haven't checked, but memory does fade........

The 1800 & 2200 were fwd, but the 3 litre was rwd, kinda like the Rover 75 V8 was.
