copper head gaskets
Discussion
i have been using copper gaskets on my race 4.5 engine for 5 years never a problem, old school.you can reuse them over again no probs.I had my cylinder heads welded up last year because of tooo much BHP inducing plastic industry additive in the fuel . The engineering company who did the work tried for several weeks to persuade me to dump the rings and copper for compersite gaskets which they thought were much better, wasted there time i'm affraid.

Would you?
Seems I may achieve the CR required for a FI build with the use of copper head gaskets, using 'o' rings etc to achieve seal. Question is, would you?
Err no, I went copper and ringed and didn't seal, might be ok on some applications , but in the end went for cometic gasket, far better Seems I may achieve the CR required for a FI build with the use of copper head gaskets, using 'o' rings etc to achieve seal. Question is, would you?

I speak from experienceHang on there will be someone that says hey copper was good for me ...... Well not when it costs you money..

I have cometic mls gaskets with no ringing, and no problems, Mac what thickness do you need to get your required C/R
Also look at wills rings
Just under 0.5. Whilst some rave about the merits of metal to metal [copper] gaskets, others say don't go near them Also look at wills rings

+1 for cometic. Hear good things in drag racing and nitrous circles. My standard elring are holding up but will replace with cometic if and when
The Elrings are as good as stock composites get Derek
the fact your still using them you must have things working well together

Has anyone had galvanic corrosion issues with copper gaskets? They are not metals I'd normally want to mate together...
No nothing and that was after 20yrs. Using Elring composites now tho and as Simon says they are 1.2mm thick.Edited by carsy on Wednesday 5th February 09:06
Cometic MLS avail in 0.030" and 0.040" thicknesses 96mm bore via Burton
