sony bravia 2007 to 2014
Discussion
Have the same model myself, since it still works fine and I use a projector for critical viewing I can't justify replacing it yet. However since the 'W' series was one down from the top 'X' series back in the day I suppose (if you ignore the 4K models) that the modern equivalent would be the 800 series:

Nearest size being 42" I've found them for sale at the same place I bought my 40W2000 for £629:

There may well be other alternatives, especially if you want to look at plasma (while they are still available at least from Panasonic), but coming from a W2000 I'd be surprised if it wasn't an improvement.

I was looking at the 55W905A in Currys yesterday, looked round at the OH and realized we were both sitting there with our jaws dropped - fantastic picture, proper eye-popping. Think the 55 inch model was £1499, I believe the 40 inch is £999. Stunning TV though, well worth the extra over the comparable LG/Samsung. The Trilumonous tech makes colours look seriously impressive.

Yes, but there's a bit more to it rather than the panel itself, hence why the Sonys and Panasonics look so much more impressive imo. LG Display: Samsung, LG, Philips, Vizo, Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, AmTRAN and Skyworth

Yea, we are pleased as punch with ours, John Lewis has this at £1599 but will price match Curry's & also give you a five year warranty rather than the pony 1 year curry's offer which is what i done. It's gorgeous
To be honest even a 'thick' TV will sound pretty poor compared to even a soundbar let alone a proper sound system. I had to use my TV speakers recently (same model as the OP) for a brief period and they were awful, which is why I always listen via my amp. I don't always bother turning my subs on though, but 2 x 15" subs is a bit OTT for the news or some DIY type program...
