I'm staying off site for the 24hr and I'm wondering what suggestions people might have for catching some sleep at the race. It'll be a massive pain in the arse to try and get back for a few hours sleep.

I have a grandstand seat, but I've noticed that there aren't any backs on the seats so I don't think I'll be doing so much sleeping there! Is it best to just wrap up warm and sleep up against something vaguely supportive? Are you likely to mortally offend someone if you were to lay across their seat in the night?

I tend to work 24 hour periods fairly often, but to be honest I get kinda pissy towards the end and I don't fancy spoiling the event for myself or my missus so any suggestions gratefully accepted. smile

Sadly I'm notoriously st at sleeping anywhere that isn't a bed. I've literally never been able to grab more than 15 mins.

I'd probably have to get pass out drunk if I can't find somewhere vaguely warm and comfortable. wink

I'm like you and need a bed or tent to sleep in, but at LM I can sleep anywhere possibly because the background noise is perfect.

Last year I spent the best part of 4hrs asleep at Arnage in my camping chair.

Son and I always have seats and have hotel rooms out of town excluding Saturday night, meaning our plan is always to sleep in the car which is in Parking Blanc.

Car wont be there so that's not going to be much help (shuttled in / out on race day).

Most, if not all grandstand seats have backs.

Or buy a cheapo camping matt, lay it down somewhere and close your eyes. Always amazes me when you go out to watch night racing at Arnage and Mulsanne and find people asleep in sleeping bags on the banking - about 10ft away from the track.

Drink. Heavily.

I remember having to have a snooze during Saturday qualifying of a Spa GP, found myself a shady spot under a tree at Blancimont and zonked out for an hour. Aparently the cars were LOUD.

Don't forget, if you're sepnding a night under the stars you will get damp.

There are plenty who take a sleeping bag or a blanket and have a kip on the grass banking, just hope its not pouring down with rain.
Most Grandstands have seat backs, I think its only Wollek that doesn't.

We're in Raccordement. Ticket website isn't letting me get to the camera view at the moment, but when I looked those seats definitely didn't have backs on them.

Surprisingly, the regular plastic seats with backs are very comfortable for extended periods.

Find yourself some good quality ear plugs or ear muffs & make sure you have warm clothing (unless you are Danish & then shorts & t shirt will be fine) or sleeping bag if you want to catch some zzzs in the stands, it gets mighty cold overnight.
I'm not just saying that because I travel from Australia.

You can sort of see it from this view. They only have the plastic bottoms, not the backs.

Psychotext,

I have had seats in Raccordament for many years, it's the best of the grandstands in my view. There is a giant TV opposite so that plus RLM is all you need to keep abreast of what's happening. I confirm that there are no seat backs in Raccordament. It will no be very comfy trying to get any zzzzzs here in my view.

Thanks The Leaper. That's what I suspected.

Maybe I'll grab something like this: http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/Backpacking-Chair-Re...

Raccordament is cramped (storing the beer cans can be a problem) so using that item when it's busy is not going to work. Taking something padded and therefore comfy to sit on is a good idea as the plastic bum shaped seats are not particularly pleasant. However, later for sleeping it should be ok. I've seen peeps stretched out on the topmost row getting some zzzzzs, and up there you are up against the rear of the grandstand which will protect you reasonably well.
