Thought i had one water that is but turned out to be small hose off thermostat had a split next to jubilee clip. Fixed that by shortening hose and upon reading post found that some of you didnt have a link pipe across heater pipes. Interior heater been rubbish any way not a lot of heat so i have done away with link and heater valve so i will run it up tomorrow night and see if i get better heat. Will let you know.

Just a thought.....

Probably not quite the same with a V8, but from my 280, (and several photos of others), I reckon quite a few wedges have their heaters incorrectly plumbed in, so that there's very little flow through it (heater).

I changed mine around so it was more like the Capri/Cortina arrangement, and it's DEFINITELY better than before.

On mine (early 2.8), the plastic overflow tank was plumbed in parallel with the heater, so flow went via the plastic tank instead of heater....

I wonder if the V8s are similar ?

Although mine does have a heater bypass pipe I've temporarily closed it (cable tie and bent it 180 degrees). Hopefully it will get a good run Sunday to see if I get a bit more warmth from the heater. Mine does have an inline valve from the heater control that appears to work okay.

Hi, long story, but I took out all the pluming junk, simplified it, with just in and out pipes and a small bore bleed tee in line close to the matrix connections, so the heater is on constant and cannot be turned off, which is like some modern cars do these days, as a wedge heater box is not pressurised by fresh air, you then call for heat by just turning on the fan. I also took a lot of obstruction away from the fan mouth....It now works a treat and gets almost too hot.

I think the original Tvr design restricted the water flow with elbows and valves and they caused air traps, the air intake by the fan mouth restricted half the air flow available by the motor, so Its is not the fault of the matrix nor the fan motor, they are both good if not restricted.

Ps, mines a v8

Yeah, the original Cortina (2.3) setup had no water valve, so matrix was hot all the time, and it had a cold air bypass flap in the heater air intake to control the temp.

I did the same and got rid of a couple of 'cross pipes' that I reckon aren't necessary.

Problem is some of the 2.8i plumbing relies on a constant flow too, so some care is needed to get the pipes right with a water control valve ...
