I suspect my old reader (orange U380) is not compatible with my 07 V8V. Could someone confirm a reader that does connect -possibly the updated orange U480?

I've got one of these plugged into my DB9 right now

It's bluetooth and works with the Torque app on my Nexus 7 tablet. It won't work with Apple devices as they limit the way bluetooth works on them.

Thanks all for the helpful inputs. I think my old generic reader is probably not (sufficiently) CAN compliant since although it works on an 04 Focus, it will not communicate with an 05 Disco 3 or the V8V. CAN coding was been implemented piecemeal, so it seems, from about 2001. New reader ordered today. I like to carry one to deal with engine codes logged by transients, which if minor can be cleared and typically do not return. Very useful if a long way from home.

Yes, the D900 works fine (I had to identify the Aston as a Jag), and it cleared the nuisance code which has not returned. Very happy with that at £22 delivered.

Good to hear. I've got one of those ebay jobs and some basic free software on my phone which is a bit clunky. What software did you use to clear the code?

Software is built in - plug and play - and a memory to retain the cleared code should you need to refer to it later.

The Ebay D900 OBD does the job well for £20 (selecting Jag from the menu as AM not listed)
I carry mine in the Roadsters boot and have become quite proficient in clearing the regular "Emission Service" warning message (even though there is never any fault codes to read)
I may add it to my CV since I am so proficient at it now

Ah.. I've the bluetooth one. Might be cheaper to buy software than change the device

I just bought a Creader V on Amazon (I suspect it might be a fake), and can't seem to physically plug it to the car! It feels like the plug shapes are slightly different?

Am I being a nob, are "replica" OBD2 readers a weird shape, or the Aston's?

OBD plugs on cars are all the same. Aston's is no different.

My V8V has two sockets - I presume other models have two also. I doubt the engine OBD socket is the same pattern as the body diagnostics socket

^^^^ Both the chassis and powertrain connectors are indeed physically identical.
