Ultimate Guitar - Tab Pro subscription?

As above, is it worth the $50 for unlimited access?

Been playing guitar (badly) for many years and never seem to get beyond the basics. Don't have time for lessons at the moment but I'd like to learn the twiddly bits in some of my favourite tracks and this may be a good, fairly cheap route. I've tried using standard tabs but being a bit dense at these sort of things I've made very poor progress

I'm the same as you, when it comes to tabs, I can read them but it takes me a while to actually turn it into music. Have a look at some of the online lessons on youtube. If you want to learn a song, chances are someone has already done a lesson for it. I like it because you can go back and forward at your leisure.

I just use the freebie version and haven't found the need to spend money on the pro version. It's a good enough tool as it is for me.

How do you get the freebie version? All I get is the limited demo that shows part of the track and then tries to flog you a subscription via the free trial?

I've been using TuxGuitar for the last couple of years, it's free, and somewhere online I found a file of a few thousand GP3 &GP4 files which play perfectly. Taken my bass playing from nothing to having a good go at over 100 songs.

Not being sarcastic here - I just downloaded it off iTunes! It's the ultimate-guitar tabs app and it plays pro tabs. You get the full song and all the instrument tabs. Hope we are talking about the same thing here

Ah, I was talking about the normal web version!

I have the normal UG iPhone app running on my iPad (to hell with paying a never ending subscription on the iPad version when the iPhone app is available for a small one-off cost). So I assume you mean the £2.49 TabPro app? If that gets me unlimited access to the content then that may do. What I ideally wanted was a subscription that got me access on any platform, but having looked closer and checked their forums, it seems like they don't offer this (pretty damn stupid if you ask me).

i would purchase guitar pro or if your that way inclined a dubious version in which you dont pay,
I dislike tab pro with a passion and it just ripped off guitar pro and its files created by users. if you search ultimate guitar for guitar pro tabs you will find all "pro tabs" are mysteriously 5 stars etc, there just copys of guitar pro. they was a few threads on ultimeguitar.com about it, lots of people were annoyed there work was blatantly ripped and used on "tab pro", and the way ultimate guitar tried to force it on people by putting 15 second download wait times on any tabs except guitar pro,
eventually ultimateguitar.com removed the threads with hundreds of people slating it.

guitar pro is a much better program with even more available tabs and instruments and more flexible. i would get that or powertab is also good.

Thanks for that I'll give it a go. I assume the actual tabs are easy to get hold of?

guitar pro is probably the most popular program so tabs are no problem, the most recent version is GP6, but it will play all the older guitar pro files such as .gp5 and .gp4 etc,

If you are using ultimate guitar to search for tabs, search for a song, then on the left hand side you will see "type filter", click guitar pro and it will show all the guitar pro files for the song you have searched for. it will also show tab pro, another sneaky one ultimateguitar are trying to force on people, it shows tab pro files in the guitar pro search, just ignore them and their ratings as they are all unsuprisingly 5 stars.
