Without going into boring details, my second hard drive, on which loads of data had been backed up was inadvertantly formatted the other day.

I have used 'getyourdataback' software to recover a lot of it, but I wonder if anyone has a more sophisticated programme I could blag to try and recover the rest.

It was quick formatted in NTFS.

Is that different to GetDataBack? I've used this when a hard drive failed and it recovered ALL the data.

You can download the software which will check to see if it can recover any data. If it can, it shows you, but won't actually recover it until you purchase a key - only $79.

Apologies if this is the software you have already tried.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes it is the software I have used, i managed to find a key on the net which anyone can have if they want.

It recovered loads of software, but none of the actual XP Files and Settings' backups I had saved. Lost loads of emails and important trivia if uou know what I mean.

Saved hundredss of jpg's and word files, but there is still loads there that comes up as a valid file, but cannot be actually read for some reason.

Have you tried doing a RAW recovery? Currently doing one on a hard drive I delelted the partition on. Real pain as it loses all file names but at least you stand a chance of getting the data back.
I'm using Ontrack Easy recovery Pro v6.0

Try File Scavenger 2.1 - key costs about £25 but you can run a free trial to see if your data is still there. I had a hard drive fail after a suspected virus onslaught - not only was the HDD showing as full but with no files, the partition got erased as well. Managed to get everything back though.
