Health Insurance
Discussion
Hi All,
I had BUPA health insurance up until Christmas when I decided it was a waste of money and cancelled. I'm now wondering if I should have something in place after all.
Things I didn't like about BUPA:
- £500 excess although I probably picked that to keep the monthly subs down.
- Hassle of claiming. Trying to get anything out of them seemed so tortuous that I just gave up and paid for most little things myself (probably related to the above excess).
Has anyone got any recommendations?

Currently with Aviva, £200 a month for myself, wife and 5 kids (11,13,16,20,22) excess is £200. Went to the docs last week as I'm having trouble swallowing food referred me to the local private hospital, I called up Aviva the same evening told them what was wrong and they approved it over the phone. Got a call yesterday morning from the specialist and I'm seeing them this afternoon.
It's absolutely priceless.
