Guess a number plate price from authorised stealer
Discussion
In warranty, number plate delaminated. Price of 1 number plate from dealer? £55.
Halfords? £3.
I also needed a key coding to the car as the crap Volvo unit failed around the rubber buttons as usual.
£85+VAT for key programming which took 2 minutes. A rate, of £2,550 per hour + VAT.
Ridiculous. Reinforces why I refuse to use them for service work.

I've never tried it, but I looked it up when I changed the battery in my spare fob as the manual says you may have to take it to a dealer:

It's very plausible because it's pretty much the same set of instructions I followed when I bought a new Cobra fob for a previous car and it worked.

Halfords charge £3 to fit a number plate. That does not include the price of plate !! (oddly enough). So not £3 then.
Any one of a number of ebay sellers all competitively priced. Unless you specifically want to drive around advertising your dealer's contact details...I believe technically its a legal thing to have the plate suppliers details on the plate - I'm not sure what happens if all the rest of it (size, colour, spacing) is correct but you'll see it on all cars now. You can buy "show plates" (I think that's the term) that allow you to get around this. Its an attempt to stop people cloning cars, a reputable plate maker will ask to see the car documents etc before making a plate.

Yes, I think you are correct Jon.
However if like me, you want your plates to be as plain as possible, the Halfords version is reasonably good.
Their name and (I think) postcode is shown, but the print is so feint, it can only be seen when extremely close. You can request no flags and borders.
While you are waiting at their tatty premises, there is no coffee in porcelain china, no leather chairs (in fact no chairs at all), no polished stone floor, no model-like receptionists, and no work-of-art sports cars to look at.
The number plates are quite cheap though. Funny that. ->

But technically these will still be illegal as they won't have the authorised stamp at the bottom of the plate ? Any legite supplier requires you to bring in your v5 or reg transfer docs. divetheworld said:
Is it just be who thinks car-logos on plates are akin to popping a St Georges cross on there? Basically a bit nasty.I have however just taken delivery of a very very small front plate. For show purposes of course...

Yup, but they print the BS number on the bottom (if you select it) so plod wont care.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
