Sonos Question

I have a playbar and sub in one room and am thinking of adding two 3's to that room.
I'm pretty sure I can do that but how important is the positioning of the 3's? The playbar is in front and the sub to one side (and as I see it that can be anywhere). But the 3's wouldn't be able to be behind, they could only be to the sides of the seating area, probably quite high up.
Any thoughts on whether that would be OK? Does the placing of them matter hugely?
(I can't try it, I have a spare 3 but the other would come from using frequent flyer points that I don't want to use this way if it doesn't work too well.)
Thanks.

The local audio shop have their Sonos demo setup with Play3 as surround speakers, thy are at the top of the wall on either side of a sofa. The sofa is pushed back against the wall. It seems to work fine.
From memory when I set my Play1's up part of the setup asks where the speakers are compared to where you sit, but think only basic info.

Before we had rears and sides (ie 7.1) the recommendation was to have them to the sides and slightly above you, so no problem there.
Go for it, doubt the 3s will be any better than the ones for surround duties, and the ones would look a bit neater, but if they are for free then seems the obvious choice.
Or sell the 3s and buy a pair of ones?

I use 1's as my rears and have them positioned about a foot above head height when sat on the couch - more than adequate for rear speakers. Which I guess you are finding now you have gone with that set up. Oh, and if you are wall mounting them - no need to buy the expensive flexion brackets as the cheapo jobbies do the job just as well as the thread on the back of the 1's are fairly standard.
