Just bought a new car ( PH favourite as well - not a mapped 335 either!) and rang my current insurer for quotes this morning. For the first time in my life, BEFORE buying a new car. Anyway, quotes to change were brilliant (much to my surprise)and the lovely lass at the AA said she'd ring me back at 4:30 to see if I'd done anything about it.
Bang on 4:30, she rang back.
Gave her the reg number etc, cost to change naff all, then asked if it would cost much to have it parked on the road rather than the garage (as I can give up the garage which costs me £70 a month!) and the price went DOWN!
She couldn't understand it at all, and ran the quote twice to make sure. So in the end, it cost me £25 to change from a knackered Renault Scenic always garaged to an MX5 parked on the road.

The £25 was the admin fee, so no cost to change!
I have to say, Lianne from the AA was brilliant. Spent loads of time with me running through a variety of permutations of new and used cars and the cost to insure each (a new one was even cheaper than an older one).
Oh, and they are cheap, especially if you have their breakdown cover already.

Its all a bit mental

My insurance went down £20 for parking on the road rather than the drive, and down a further £10 for doing 10,000 miles a year rather than 6,000 confused

I know, I must say that after she left my house last night, I've had a big smile on my face all day...

All strange with insurance at the moment, had my renewal letter from admiral, price went down great but thought I'd check online and I got a more expensive quote from admiral. My renewal was cheaper than all companies bar 1 or 2 dodgy looking companies.

If you up value insurance goes down sometimes to, admiral value 1600, my value 4k hehe

It *can* be cheaper parking on a drive then a garage due to the common issue of things being taken out of the garage and damaging the car (bikes, lawn mowers etc) also people hanging tools up that fall and damage the car! ...or so I am told anyway.

0/10, no vitriol and you didn't even try to swear. wink

In some areas a car in a garage might be at *more* risk of theft. If someone dodgy sees a car always goes into a garage, they definitely know which house to break into to get the keys. Yes, they might see you park up and walk into a house but it's less likely... and do you live there or are you just visiting?

Also house fire = car damage if it's in an attached garage.
