Hi all, first post here,

I'll shortly be needing to make journeys every weekend between Birmingham and London, not using the train, so looking for a very comfortable car that will eat up the miles.

The main emphasis is really just refinement, comfort and decent power.

My budget for the car itself is about £6000 (maybe £500 headroom above), keeping another £2000 for a rainy day/unexpected service.

Then insurance, fuel, tax and MOT I've kept money separately for.

What would you guys recommend?

I've been looking at mostly German cars, I would prefer a coupe but a good looking Saloon shouldn't be an issue.

The office I work in overlooks that, doubt it goes very far up the Thames!

If your only requirement is comfort, you need a Lexus LS. I'd look for the best 400 which would be well under budget, but is one of the most comfortable and reliable (and boring!) cars ever made.

Six grand seems a lot of money to have in a motor used only for the weekend jaunt.

I'd be looking to spend less, increase the bork fund, and limit any potential losses. Between 3-5k gets you some serious range of machinery

Just bought one myself, £500 = bargain. 127k miles on a p plate, mechanically sound but needs a wheel refurb. I only collected it an hour ago and I love it!
