Karting at 3 sisters - anyone been in the wet?

Has anyone else had a go in the new LPG fuelled Sodi karts they have now, in the rain? I ask because during the briefing, the chap said that in saturated conditions like today one could could expect to be about 10 seconds slower per lap than in the dry. I then went and did consistant 1.04's on the 1000m club circuit which I thought was fair enough for a first timer to the track, but not likely to be on the pace of a regular serious karter. However, when I went back into the clubhouse at the end of the day, I saw a notice saying the current lap record for the track (therefore assuming the same karts) was 56 seconds. This made me wonder - is the 10 second rule of thumb somewhat off (likely), is the current record very new and thus a bit slow (semi likely), or am I some sort of rain driving go (possible but a whole lot less likely)?

Does anyone know what a competitive wet time is for the 1000m track?

No idea, all I can add is that karting in the pouring rain is amazing!

I know its not useful but I agree with the above I nearly hit a cow at the Tamworth place! Was ridiculous amounts of fun.

Given you're as mediocre as me at karting in the dry, I somehow doubt this.

And just for the benefit of PH at large, how many times did you fall off the track in the rain at Oulton on Saturday (in my car!) ?

Yes, but you said you hate wet karting, whereas I actively enjoyed squirming around and feeling for the grip today.

Oh, and I span twice at Oulton...... the exact same number of times as you!
The instructor even said I had excellent natural speed and was a smoother driver than you, so ner.

That current record must be just 2014 or something...I.know I've done 54s on the Sodi karts there and have seen guys smaller and lighter than me doing high 53s. All in the dry of course. Not driven the Sodis in the wet but the old twin-engined pro karts they used to have were a proper laugh!

A couple of tracks run wet and dry lap records, worth checking with the track?
You might find yourself 8 seconds off the pace.

Now thats an interesting hypothesis! I'll definitely check that out, as the printout did look suspiciously fresh too (and it hadnt been raining for long)

Slight update - I went again in the dry the other week, and my best lap was 54.725 on the same layout, which I thought was quite good. However, they didnt appear to have a dry lap record sheet up on their noticeboard. Can anyone tell me if this is competitive or not for the single-engined arrive and drive karts?

Wow that place is a blast from the past. Used to race there at a kid with the school (NatSKA) only once that I remember in the wet. Was great fun, and did not realise you can just turn up and race as an adult.

Hmmm and I have a birthday coming up in April. Just subtly drop hints about this to the other half.

Depends on how wet the track is and how quickly it dries.

We don't have a fastest wet lap as such as it can be really subjective as to how wet is wet, if that makes sense!

Btw I suspect it was me that briefed you, Liverpool uni by any chance?

Edited to add - current lap record is a 52.8 in the sodis, off the top of my head. That's from last September.

If you're the bloke with the long floppy hair, then yes it was you that briefed the group with me in it from Liverpool. I was the one in the bright blue race suit that was having a great dice for the lead and ultimately prevailed!

I ‘like‘ to use my 6‘1 height and 14 stones as an excuse for being slow - but I have no idea how much truth there is in that...
