dvla cherished plate retention - new process?

I seplate the form +v5, mot, tax reference a couple of weeks ago to put my plate on retention. Today I received an envelope from dvla with just a new V5 with a standard plate, the last time I did this I got the V5 new not and tax disc etc all at once - does this no longer happen?

Last time I did this was via a local dvla office which has now gone. I tried phoning earlier but was on hold for half an hour and gave up!

Oh, and my cheque hasn't been cashed yet.

MOT & tax come in one package, V5 in another.

At what point should I swap the physical plates over then? When I have the matching tax disc to display?
