Hi all, has anyone a photo of a genuine glove box catch? Is there something to pull to open it? Mine has a very strong magnetic catch on the inside with nothing on the outside to pull. It's a screwdriver job to carefully open it. I'm assuming this was not the original design basis? Thanks.

The original was a loft hatch catch! About three quid from B&Q.

Be very careful with the loft catch - I adjusted mine because it was popping open under acceleration, and then couldn't get into the glove box! In the end I had to use the key "on the cock" to pull it open which damaged the veneer.

The original design had a catch on the top left hand corner of the glove box where you would push the glove box lid once to shut and again to release. There was never a pull on the outside. I would take a picture to show you but my car isn't here at the moment.

Maybe there should be an emergency glove box release in the boot silly

Perhaps set some small charges on the hinges and have an "In case of emergency" ignite switch...A small pop and off comes the glovebox... wink

Exactly what I've done to mine. The loft catches are rubbish. Look at it as a security measure for when you leave the roof down.

Personally i think it would be good if there was a release button underneath the dash inline with the glovebox...Maybe some brainbox could devise it....Ziga

A couple of things about the loft catch

Firstly, when you have adjusted them to the correct position you must put a couple of short nails into the 2 small holes to ensure it is held in position securely. A tight screw in the slots is not enough. When the glove box is closed the catch can take a bit of a bttering which can move it. But not if the nails are in place.

The catches themselves can become unreliable on heavier items such a hidden catch doors and also loft hatches. Not found that yet with smaller items. But I stand to be corrected, I guess!!
