Morning all, I've decided i want a new car and i need your help!
i want a small quick car for around 6k it needs to be good on fuel (45+) on the motorway , low on tax and insurance
I've been looking at:

alfa mito 1.4tb 155
mitsubishi colt ralliart

anybody owned or driven these cars?

or anyone got any more ideas for cars?

i like the look at the renault sport twingo but I've had french cars in the past and they kept breaking down!
also the suzuki swift sport is a contender but I'm not a massive fan

cheers
Tom

You'll struggle to get a Mito for £6k I think.
Around this, if I was specifically looking for a small engine turbo car, I'd have a Brabus ForFour.

What's wrong with the Swift Sport? Best of the cars mentioned in this thread IMO.

Fiesta ST?

Great handling, gearboxes & reliability (cheap parts too!)whilst a few minor tweaks can see 185bhp when you get bored?

ETA - not a turbo but can be.....

I did 12K in a mito 155, and my heart still aches whenever i think of having to leave that car behind when switching jobs.

It is a bit Fiat-y, in a sense that if you've been in a grande punto/punto evo, you'll immediately recognize the indicator stalk, the fog light switches etc. The plastic on top of the doors isnt exactly quality either. Both minor niggles which i didnt care about, but some people feel a bit odd buying an alfa and getting visible fiat bits.

The engine is very nice, in N mode it is pretty sedate, but quick enough to keep up with any and all traffic (as you'd expect from 155hp), in D mode though, the throttle response is upped and the thing starts to feel like a tiny little axe-murderer is living under your bonnet, the PAS also weakens, so the steering starts to feel a lot meatier. Be sure to start your test drive in N-mode for the first minutes to feel what it's like in that mode, then switch to D (push the switch forward until the light switches to D, if the onboard computer is setup correctly the display between the clocks will display a digital turbo-pressure gauge) and enjoy the drive as it's meant to be.

One word of warning, the seats arent brilliant, i've had two mitos, and in both i'd have a bit of a back-ache when i drove for an hour or more.

If i didnt need more doors/space (because kids etc..), i'd have a mito again in a heartbeat.

Swift Sport is great. Very much an old school feeling hot hatch. Or as much as you can expect from a modern car.

thanks for all the comments!

everyone seems to love the suzuki swift but i just think its far to boy racer and a bit chavy and surely its underpowered?

I'm coming from an alfa gtv and id quite like to stay with alfa to be honest but any more suggestions are welcome smile

minis are just too girly for my liking sorry frown

Is a Leon/ Golf/ A3 too big? One of them with the 1.4 TSI would come under budget. Probably looking at something 2008ish.

I was going to say that, cheap to run, fairly well made. There not that fast though.
