What's the point?

A dentist's conspiracy surely.

Just cut/split them open, turn them inside out and the seeds just fall out or at worst take a little encouragement with a little rub/poke.

As for the little hard bit in the center of the seed, thats just extra roughage

Cut in half and bang them with a wooden spoon. Surprisingly it's quicker than turning inside out and plucking.

When I was 4 or 5, I remember my Grandma sitting me down with a pomegranate cut in half and telling me it had to be eaten with a cocktail stick, piercing the individual seeds one by one.

Kept me quiet for a couple of hours as I was determined to finish it. Cracking idea by the old girl looking back, intend to do the same with my own kids when I want a bit of peace and quiet. biggrin

A bit O/T.

I've got a photo somewhere of me sat astride a giant tortoise in the Galapagos feeding pomegranites to them off the trees. They made wonderful grunting noises while eating them.

My Nan too used to give me them to eat with a pin, it took bleedin' hours. Clever old duck. wink

Fresh is lovely but the cartons of juice are just vile.

I put them in the vitamix.

The pure juice is a little strong though, so it is usually with other stuff.

Great - I've an unopened carton of the stuff in the fridge...

(My Gran was another who used a pomegranate and pin as a 'gob stopper')

Asda sell a lovely ambient pomegranate juice drink in the 'ethnic' section. It's just water, juice and sugar. No added flavourings.

Another who was set to work with a pin and a pomegranate by by Gran - I do the same with my kids now.

But yes - half with a knife then bang the outside with the back of a spoon is the best method.

Cut in half, place inside a bowl of water then turn inside out and flick all the seeds out. None will burst and you can just scoop them out of the water, pop them in a small bowl and eat them.

I haven't had one for years, so I bought three today, thanks to this thread! Eating the first one now, and it's just delicious - perfectly ripe smile
