SVM Qashqai R - it lives!

The build is complete, let testing commence...

Those of you at the Autosport International may well have spotted the SVM Qashqai R in all its glory. Despite aiming for an 'OEM+' look for its crazy Qashqai, it must have a drawn its fair share of curious glances.

It takes R35 tuning one step further!
It takes R35 tuning one step further!
With the car complete, SVM has released a few more details about the project. We'll take its assertion of driving better than a regular R35 GT-R with a pinch of salt, even if the claims of an improved ride are more believable. And the absurd performance can of course be enjoyed through a panoramic roof and in a wonderfully weird Qashqai/GT-R cabin.

As part of the 1000R upgrades, the GT-R's VR38DETT engine has received an increase in capacity from 3.8-litres to 4.1-litres, aiding low-end torque as well as that mad power output. A higher compression ratio and the Stage 6 Garrett turbos mentioned previously contribute to 'over 1,100hp if required'. And it can run on E85. Bonus.

With the car finished, SVM are keen to get media behind the wheel of the Qashqai R in the near future. The video will have to sate yours (and our!) appetite for now.

Waste of all that engineering prowess sticking it in something that looks so awful. Sorry. Sports SUVs don't do anything for me.

Incredible project, and indeed a very very OEM+ install on the engine bay smile

However, those side graphics down the doors are absolutely awful (not that you'd care when pressing on haha).

Beast. I love mental engine swaps like this.

To be fair, it's a promotional tool so needs to stand out above being ultimately aesthetic-pleasing.

Utterly ridiculous, completely pointless.

However, as strange as it may sound, combining one car I have absolutely no interest or desire for, with one I find somewhat interesting but don't particularly desire, has created something I, for some inexplicable reason, really really want.

I sold Qashqais for a year and became quite fond of them. This is pretty awesome though, As a marketing exercise they have it spot on! I only wish Nissan would attempt a hot version. Im thinking along the lines of a Zafira VXR or SMax typathing

Even a cashcow with the 1.6 DIG-T tweaked to 220bhp would make an interesting family motor.

There's rumours of a Qashqai Nismo. I guess they were waiting for the new model that's just released.

Fingers crossed they don't insist on a CVT 'box for the four wheel drive version. That's the only reason there isn't a Juke Nismo on my drive right now. SWMBO won't drive an auto and insists on 4wd for the next car.

If the Juke had come with a dual clutch I would have been tempted. All this nonsense from Nissan engineering steps into the CVT to act like gears is dreadful. Again supposed to be improved in the new cashcow and supposed to be amazing....though I was told that about the Juke.

Surely they can share the clios box and loose a few Co2's.

'Sport' SUV.

Should be used to define irony in the Oxford pocket dictionary.

Really don't get the point of this (or any sport SUV)- my personal opinion of course.

I don't ever want to be the middle aged man in a Sport SUV cos my wife made me sell my sportscar.....

I suspect the above comments will be jumped on but that's what I think.

I actually quite enjoyed the CVT box in the Juke DiG-T. It took some getting used to, especially the noise and sensation of a constant engine noise under acceleration. It doesnt really make sense in a car like that but at least they tried something different.

Oh, and the sequential element in autos nowadays...why cant they go back for up forward for down gears...like the race cars! I first drove them in a Juke and kept changing down when accelerating and changing up when braking. Very annoying after a youth spent on doing it the proper way around in Gran Tourismo!
