Milage on Mondeo ST220
Discussion
Been looking around at some ST220's.
Some are quite low miles (for the age), 50k - 80k
All the other cars above that milage seem to be alot cheaper. I was wondering if it is worth the extra money for low miles?
maybe everything is ok with them but when you hit the higher miles then stuff will need replacing. With a high milage motor, these problems may have already been fixed.
Anyone can give me some advise on high milage ST220s?
TIA

I've had my car since new (2004) so I know the full history behind the miles I've put on it. The car is coming up to 160k now and it's only in the past year I've started to use it less as I've got another car I run alongside it. In all of that time I've only had a few issues with it and these are the common ones like a breather pipe perishing, clutch cylinders needing to be replaced, clutch/flywheel replacement after 120k, sticking rear brake caliper. Other than that the car has been faultless. For the first 130k or so miles it was constantly being used on A/B roads and it's only when I changed job it started to be used on motorways.
I've read about others on here having problems, etc.. but touch wood mine's been spot on. It's always been serviced on schedule and never had any additional oil changes in between.

I took a punt on an 06 plate car late last year. It has a partial service history with 96,000 on the clock.
I get the feeling the car was driven, more than loved!
So far though, I'm impressed. It pulls well and doesn't seem to need oil. I did replace a breather pipe shortly after collecting. I reckon the clutch is good for a few thousand miles - at least. Everything works on the car as at day 1.
In fact, my rainy day mechanical budget is more than likely going to be spent on getting the wheels and body scratches repaired.

They're pretty bombproof in general, but only problems are the usual wheel bearings, sticky handbrake cable/calipers, broken springs and general wear and tear stuff.
Like any car, it depends on how its been driven and used if these things have already went and been replaced or still to go regarding lower miles etc.
Spec will also factor in price, early models are going cheap as normal, then theres 2 facelifts after, with dash changes, 6sp box added etc, pick what you like and shop around as its a buyers market with lots of folk afraid of juice costs for a 3ltr, some bargains out there for well specced cars.
Mines is an 04 with low miles (57k when i bought it, just went 62k) and i have had one rear wheel bearing, one front, handbrake cable and small piece of brake pipe replaced for a recent MOT, other than that its been perfect.
