Besides crashing what's the biggest failure that's happened to your vehicle when in use.

I've had a manifold fail leaving a shower of sparks behind me as the rest of the exhaust scraped on the road.

And when I was in school the back wheels came off our school bus!

Where do I start? biggrin

Bottom end went on my MR2.
Valve and associated damage on a Defender. We'd just done 6 days doing various trips in the Libyan Sahara and it went on the main coast road bang next door to some Cypriot workers who sorted us out. thumbup
HGF x 3, although never on a K series despite owning three.

And lots more minor stuff.

Had a front wheel come off a mini I was driving, sparks flying up over the bonnet as I skidded along on a brake disc.

Hired Transit Mini-bus - engine blown, a hole on each side of the block and a big end cap resting on a ledge in the engine bay.
It still started and ran on 3 cylinders so we didn't have to walk to the next M/way emergency phone.

Result... known fault, skoda replaced them all FOC! biggrin

Manual gearbox main-shaft bearing letting go on a Porsche 997S Mk1. Totally lunched the 'box. Even the used, replacement gearbox I found was £4500 fitted. OUCH!

Coolant hose split and sprayed coolant over the manifold. Huge amounts of steam as people swerved away from me thinking it was smoke and the car was going to explode. Windscreen wipers became loose on the motorway in heavy rain. I pulled over and found I needed a deep 13mm socket - the tool kit had everything except a 13mm one. That's as bad as it gets!

But as a passenger in my friends car.... he decided to slam the car into reverse at 40 mph. I can still hear the noise and screech as he lost control.

Engine went bang.

In more detail I had a valve stem break which dropped the head of the valve into the cylinder while I was on the motorway. The valve is about the hardest piece of metal in the engine so it carved big chunks out of the piston and block leaving the entire thing scrap and sending oil and bits of hot metal down the exhaust pipe.

It was a tuned 1.8 Mk1 Golf GTI and I had no doubt overrevved it at some point btw.

Jumped a humpback bridge on a VFR400 when I was younger and stupid, a combination of a hard landing and a massive tankslapper caused the headstock to part with the frame.

Vauxhall Chevette. 1988 northbound on the M1 just before Leicester Forest services. The flywheel decided to drop off whilst in lane two overtaking a wagon. It wasn't pretty !!

Either:

a) Bonnet catch failure in the middle lane of the M1. Car was an insurance write off due to the damaged roof.

b) Lunched an RV8.

Cracked cylinder head on my MR2.

Massive cloud of white smoke, I wasn't that far from home so nursed it back having to stop all the time to stop it from over heating

I tried to jump a concrete drainage pipe laid lengthways across the dirt road, using another as a launch ramp.

B-DUM - B-DUM!

No air. No hi/low transfer box casing remaining. Cogs, oil and various metals scattered. Still finished the rally though. Had to do one section up a really steep river bank in reverse as it was a lower gear than 1st...
