All the chassis modification are now complete and the engine has been stripped and being re built ready for fitting in the next coulple of weeks. The Boys at X Works are doing a brilliant job of the conversion, I cant wait to hear it fire up!

Looks good fella, I will be interested in the install given that I did the 500i conversion on my S2 350i (Gredge). IMHO the 500 is the engine that the Wedge should have had yes I am really pleased with the performance and drivability with all that power and torque on tap! This is mine btw:

That's a serious amount of chassis cutting you've had done there, what engine is going in? RV8, 302 Ford?

That's going to be my ideal wedge though when it's finished. A V8 series one FHC. Hmmmmmmmmmmm (said in a Homer Simpson way)

With the streamlined body of the FHC (compared with the drophead) you had better get a speedo head that goes up to 200mph....

I thought the rv8 fitted into a s1 chassis, without mods.Like cheddars.Looking at all engine options myself for an early wedge.

I did talk to Tony (Chedder) before we started and he did mod the top rails of the chassis to get the Rover V8 in. I also looked at as many photo's of Leigh's build as I could find and he did mod the under side as I have had to but I could not establish if he modded the top rails of the chassis.

I have used pre cat manifolds that go forward and even then have had to move the top rails outboard by about 45mm and locally "oval"the manifolds to cylinders 3 and 5 to get a satisfactory clearance.

I know the series 1 and 2 chassis were quite different and I suspect there were differences within the series 1 chassis as mine varied from that shown in Steve Heaths wedge bible. Any way it now fits "snug" in the chassis.

Leigh's racer uses griff-style manifolds too and I went to see him in his workshop. He did talk about modding the lower parts of the chassis but I don't recall him mentioning modding around the top rails as well.

Nearly there now, not a lot of space in engine bay hence new position for oil cooler. Hope to get it fired up in the next couple of weeks.

It's for the Oil cooler. This is a sprint car so no need for headlights
