New exhaust system
Discussion
Thinking about a new exhaust at some point to replace my standard one which is staring to look a bit tatty. Have looked at the ACT options and unsure whether to go for the cherry bomb or standard versions, or any other suggestions. I already have a Clive F Y-piece and have removed pre-cats. Any advice, as ever much appreciated.

I had a sports exhaust and the ACT Y piece ,it was to noisy so ditched the exhaust . The ACT sports exhaust sounds fantastic with the standard Y piece.A bit battered underneath I'm afraid and the tailpipes have suffered a bit from me driving it up onto a trailer that was a bit too high using ramps that were a bit too steep ! I'll try and tidy it up but not sure that it's original anyway, did anyone make a non stainless aftermarket system or would they all be stainless ?
I think Derek bought some new tail pipes ,other than that Engineer 1949 fabricates nice tail pipes .

This bloke will make these to your specification. Costs about £110 for two silencers in stainless. Okay, they're not red in colour, but you won't see them once fitted anyway. He'll make them semi-sleeved, completely perforated, or a mix of sleeve and perforated glass pack to your own specification. Just as an alternative.

I have a Clive f y-piece and precats removed. When I decatted I had a sleeved exhaust, but it was just too loud.
It now has a standard exhaust but I miss the noise of the sleeved silencer (with cats)
I would love to know of a half way house to get a little bit of volume back
I'm sleeved and fully decatted. It is indeed very loud. Doesn't bother me on the short journeys, but I anything over an hour on the motorway can be too loud. I purchased some TD silencers last year so will try these first (not fitted them yet). I looked at these silencers a few months ago and was considering a semi-sleeved option. It should reduce some of the higher pitches under extreme load. Just another thing on the list of things to do!It now has a standard exhaust but I miss the noise of the sleeved silencer (with cats)

Am looking at the ACT Cherry Bomb system too. Manifolds now have precats removed but keeping in the standard Y piece with cat for now. Will keep the original exhaust as is perfectly serviceable and swap it over for road tests every other years to keep it "legal".
Anyone currently using cherry bombs with a cat in the Y piece? How does it sound?

What even on long touring with the missus, no cats and a supercharger (eventually
)
Mine's SC, full decat, ACT Supersport (straight through) ...... it is f******** loud!
)Done a couple of tours in Spain, inside the car it's just possible to talk to my wife. At times she wears noise cancelling headphones, cheapies from eBuyer.
It's far worse for people following you

I made up new tails myself from prefab bends from ebay.

Get some cherry bombs, you won't regret it
+1Very nice burble, and not ear-melting on the motorway.
I have a youtube to give an idea: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqZT4EB4kDQ

Richard, sorry to thread hi-jack but I'm getting my car back tomorrow after the pre-cats have been removed and a decat y piece fitted (exhaust is standard).
How much louder is the decat manifolds/y piece over the catted system? Should I be managing my wife's expectations now?
Thanks
Begin speaking to her now. Unless she is a huge fan of loud cars she will likely be claiming deafness while you are trying to explain your reasons to her How much louder is the decat manifolds/y piece over the catted system? Should I be managing my wife's expectations now?
Thanks

On the plus side, it shouldn't be truly ear splitting.

I have just picked my car up from having a Clive f y piece and pre cats removed (and a few other things) How much louder is the decat manifolds/y piece over the catted system? Should I be managing my wife's expectations now?

Not that loud but a nice noise compared to standard. Likes to rev (or I want to rev it more?)
I had an act decat y piece and cherry bomb system on my last car and even with the pre cats in, my initial reaction is that the full act set-up was louder and had a better sound on over run but both sound good!
I need to get the roof off this weekend if it ever stops raining!
