lap timers, what you got ?
Discussion
I used an AIM Solo last year, worked perfectly. once you cross the finish line it gives you your lap time for a few seconds then it starts to predict the next lap time based on GPS. It already knows all the UK circuits (and foreign ones but I haven't tried them yet) so you don't have to bother setting beacons.
It also does some basic data logging, but I haven't bothered with this as I don't really need it.

Be sure to check the updated list of circuits where the Alfano stuff works.
I had a Fun V.2 when I started racing. Whilst it was a good unit - it didn't work at Silverstone or Spa properly as they couldn't lay their magnetic strips in the F1 circuits for one reason and another.
If it's en entirely GPS based unit then obviously the above won't be an issue.
My advice to anyone though is to seriously consider a Race Technology DL1 and Dash2. Both brilliant units and can be expanded with Video and other stuff (sensors etc) when budget allows. The analysis software *will* make you faster and more consistent once you get a handle on it.

I'm using the AIM solo which works at any circuit, even if there is no pre-existing map to download you can make your own map as you drive. I love the predictive timing and the basic datalogging features. Only niggles are that it doesnt always detect the start of the session immediately, especially if you start from the pit lane or have interesting formation laps
At the risk of de-railing the thread, can I ask what non-predictive laptimers people have used? This season I'm going to be racing in HSCC's Historic Formula Ford, who have banned predictive laptimers. I've had good experience using Racelogic hardware in the past, but unfortunately I'm not able to continue using it. Anyone got any suggestions?

You don't have to use the OLED display and without it, you don't get live predictive timing. If you don't need video, you could use a VBox Sport for data capture:

I would just use it without the screen, but they seem to be so touchy about the prospect of predictive laptiming that I'd rather use something that doesn't even have the capability of doing it. The VBox Sport seems reasonable however. Anyone have any suggestions for something that can do live laptiming (on screen), but without predictive. I'm guessing I'd be looking at something from a few years ago before predictive laptiming became the 'in' thingIf you don't need video, you could use a VBox Sport for data capture:
