2012 Focus ST - Electrical problems
Discussion
Chaps,
Got into my car this morning, started fine, but noticed the illumination on the switches for the back & front heated screens wasn't working - fairly sure the heaters are coming on, as you can hear a tiny drop in revs when the switches are pressed.
Then I noticed none of the 4 electric window switches on the drivers door are working (although the individual switches on the other three doors are working fine). Also, the electric mirror switch on my drivers door isn't working.
I haven't checked every single interior electrical item yet, but my interior lights on the headlining aren't working.
Any ideas? I was thinking a fuse but can't see one fuse would cover all of the above.
Cheers.

There are actually 3 fuse boxes on the bloody thing! One next to the battery under the bonnet, one underneath the glovebox inside the car (which is a complete pain to get to) and one inside the boot.
Managed to nip out and have a quick look, have found a 10 Amp fuse blown under the glovebox - fuse number 60 - "interior lamps, drivers door switch pack, glove box, ambient lighting, electric sunroof" according to the fuse chart inside the owners handbook.
That certainly seems to cover the stuff that isn't working! I will nip out at lunchtime and buy a new fuse, hopefully it won't blow the second I put it in the fuse box.
Yes I have the new-shape.

I went to Ford garage near me last week and i enquired about one. He said the fuel consumption is still around the same mark as my car (the mk2 facelift 2.5 turbo) unles you have a left foot and it still struggles to put the power down in 1st gear.what are these like? as im seriously looking at getting one will be black or blue st2-3 in the new shape

Hi, no problem with the thread hijack.
I find I am getting high 20's MPG (according to the trip computer on the dash - never actually checked it to see if it accurate).
If you search my post history you will see I had a lot of problems with my car when I first got it - broke down twice, wire was touching the gearbox and blowing a fuse, incompetent dealer etc. All of which has rather soured my experience of having a brand-new car so I don't feel I have ever "fell in love" (if that is the right term) with the car.
I previously had a MK2 Ford Focus RS and the interior is night-and-day better than the RS. Very comfortable, I have the ST-3 so full leather seats that are electrically-heated and electrically-adjustable. Stereo is good, I don't have the SATNAV option but I did opt for the electric sunroof and the cruise control. I've probably used the cruise control twice in the last 17 months! So that was a bit of a waste of £200.
I have heard rumour that there might be a facelift version coming out in early 2015 but not 100% sure.
There have been one or two niggles reported on the ST forums - the LED driving lights flicker on some cars (apparently fixed by a software update), the illuminated ST kick/sill-plates seem to fail quite regularly (the passenger side one on my car isn't working but I can't be bothered getting it fixed), some owners have had issues with the steering racks - cars 'wander' on motrways - racks have been replaced on some cars under warranty. My car has been fine for that though.
One other (slight) issue - the cars (or at least the early'ish ones - recently-built ones might be ok) come from the factory with a rather large gap between the bonnet and the front bumper. This can be adjusted down slightly by turning the rubber 'pillows' on the slam panel but I still occasionally get comments about the bonnet being open when it's not. Annoys me, but then I am easily annoyed!
Apparently the tangerine scream-coloured cars are a nightmare to paint if they are involved in an accident or scrape, so I would avoid getting that colour (even though it is a very nice colour!)

Thanks for the input. Ive heard good and bad about them but luckily im doing a car swap for a week and ill be driving a 63Reg white st2. Really lucky my friend is moving and wanted an estate so hopefully I will get along with it. as the dealer could do 20mins best for a test drive as apparently the demand is great
Seems from searching on Focus ST-specific forum that the problem may be the illuminated ST-branded scuff plates on the door sills that are the problem.
I've never been that bothered with them (they come as part of a 'Style Pack' that includes darker-coloured alloys and red-painted brake calipers) and my passenger side door sill scuff plate hasn't worked for months.
So if there is any easy way to disconnect them, and leave them disconnected and the fuse doesn't blow, then that's what I will be doing this weekend.
Will update the thread in case any other ST owners do a search of PH with the same issue in the future.

All sorted!
Was still semi-light when I got home from work so popped the plastic capping off along the sills, disconnected both illuminated sill plates & put a new fuse in position 60 and hey presto! everything working again. Apart from the sill plates, obviously, but I don't care about that.
Might mention it next time it's in for a service but probably won't bother.

Ladies & Gents
I have been reviewing a problem with the illuminated scuff plates on the 2014 Focus ST were the lights are not working on the plates I made a discovery today and found the source of the problem.
I have an Focus ST 2014 and after about a month of purchase I noticed the lights on the passenger door scuff plate was not working. so i went on a search to fix the problem, after looking for DIY videos and reading through hundreds of forums thinking it was a fuse or faulty strip i decided to take a look myself before i took it back to the dealership to get it fixed under warranty.
This is what i discovered
Pull the rubber door seal off around that area and you will notice a LED light Cable strip.
you will need to remove the plastic cover plate just inside the door and lift the carpet in that area, you will find the end of the LED light cable strip and a small black push plug mine was disconnect push this back together and hey presto LIGHTS ON all of the plastic trims & rubber seals just simply push back into place
So if anyone is experiencing the same problem try this first took me about 5 mins to locate the plug and 2 mins to replace all trims and seals
Good luck Guys
