Is it more cost worthy to buy a car with 60,000 miles on for 5,000 or a car with 110,000 miles on for 1000-1500 less?

I mean the exact same car, same service history etc and diesel?

Also how long does the clutch/dmf, turbo and gearbox last in a diesel?

Also does age make a difference on 55/06 cars because thats nearly 9-10 years old now,is there a lot of potential bills due to age?

For reference im looking at cars with the pd130 engine

Its not easy to answer as you really need to look at one thats had money spent.

You could have a 200k miler thats had regular servicing and recent big ticket stuff like turbo, cambelt etc be a far better car than one with 60k and all the biggies looming

Impossible to answer !

One driver could ride clutch, crunch gears generally ruin car and do a low mileage.

Careful motorway driver might clock up 100s of 1000s of miles and not break anything...smile

Depends how its been driven and looked after.
I would much rather the 110k car that has been up and down the motorway than the 60k car that's been in stop start traffic and only been on town journeys.

Just my 2p worth

Fuel receipts jammed in the wee cubby holes.

However, this theory didn't work for my Mondeo as it is about shagged anyway.

I've been told that "design life" of modern cars is 120k. Make of that what you will.

Isn't the PD130 the worst of the PDs in terms of reliability, with the 110 being the pick for performance/ reliability and the 90 being the most reliable?

I don't think I'd buy a PD130 on the basis that the only reason to buy a PD is for their reliability.

Oh, maybe. I remember it as being the more powerful, and forgot about the 150. I can't say I have done much research into it, just remember a few threads (on here, one if which was quite recent) discussing it.

Edit: a quick search reveals that the 150s like to eat cams, that might be what I was thinking of.

Your right, you cant really. It's down to you asking seller and being told something that tally's up with the car your looking at and making your own judgement.

If it's s diesel you need/want for commuting and can live with something a little older, save a few quid and try one of Merc's bombproof 190D or a 250/300D W124 these really don't mind how they have been driven and will not have none of the expense of a modern diesel. Just try and get one in good nick.
