I think I've got sinusitis and its paying havoc with my training schedule. Must have had a tail end of a cold since Christmas and catarrh running down the back of my throat. I've been using the 'if above the chest, crack on' method of training and the only reason I've stopped is the fatigue has built up. After a week off I feel less fatigued but still have raised glands and catarrh, will this sort it self out or should I pester the doc? Has anyone tried snorting salt water ala neti pot...or have a self help remedy?

If you have an infection, it's a sign of a low immunity. Busting your arse in the gym isn't going to raise your immunity. Eating well and sleeping well should help. As should antibiotics.

What Hoofy said. If it isn't clearing up on its own, go and see the quack.

I had sinusitis at the end of last year and it took a course of antibiotics to make it go away. I tried the neti pots thing too, and it just made it worse (before seeing the doc).

YMMV.

A couple of years ago, I felt feverish but was able to train. Did some HIIT for 20 minutes. Next day I could barely get out of bed. Sat at the dinner table and it was a real effort to put food in my mouth. Bit scary!

Just been out on the bike for an hour and tried to put a couple of efforts in. Just not quite right yet, heart rate more elevated than normal. I'll book an app and have another week off the bike frown

OP get to the DR.

I went down with some form of Sinusitis infection a year ago. I was practically debilitated for 4 months. Never ever had a problem before.

I was on antibiotics and steroids for weeks and although the severity has settled I am now told I have Chronic Sinusitis.

Even the slightest activity at all gives me burning eyes, throat and an extremely dry mouth. All followed by headache a terrible cough and pain in my ears.

Avoid some of the nasal sprays like Otravine as they eventually make things worse I use a Steroid type spray that helps a little.

It's terrible, I worry every day that the extreme pain will return. I've seen two consultants, one privately.

Hope it clears up for you.

ETA Things that helped are.

Hot showers with lots of steam, avoid dairy products and Bananas because of the mucus build up, chicken soup hot and steamy, rest, plenty of fluids to thin mucus, avoid outside cold air and temp differences eg hot into cold air.

I know your pain! Suffered 2 years ago with months of sinusitis ended up having them operated on, still have issues now and again and use a neti pot with salt water. Works well for me and my ENT consultant was happy for me to do this. As someone else said stay off of the sinex and the like.

The consultant I seen privately says I need surgery. Do you think it was worth it?

NHS won't operate as they say it can be maintained with the neti pot and spray even though I apparently have a deviated septum. I suffer every day from it but I can currently put up with it.

A year ago I was in a really bad way. I hope I never have to endure that ever again.

Like you I had a deviated septum as well. The surgery has certainly made it better although I do have occasional issues which I treat with the neti pot. I had balloon sinus plasty, septum straitened and the cartridge trimmed down. I'll be honest, it was horrible, had a 24 nose bleed and felt pretty crap for a couple of weeks. If you have the option of going private I would say go for iit.

BSP is what I would want. Doesn't seem to be anyone at it here in N.I currently.

Think I'll suffer on for the foreseeable.
