Are we too late?
Discussion
Well over the course of yesterday me and a few mates decided we'd like to go to Le Mans this year. We are all first timers so not clued up just yet.
Are we too late to arrange some camping? And if not could anyone recommend somewhere with space?
We are not too worried by a bit of noise
Also we are in Hull so could get on a ferry here or would it be better to drive down to the channel tunnel?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Adam

You'll get a ticket for BJ camping with no problem. The others will be getting hard to obtain. Not sure about the private sections - I know PH area is sold out.
The Hull ferry depends on families. I believe it's an easier drive, but members of our group have to negotiate time for good behaviour, and the extra evening cannot usually be had. It's also significantly more expensive as a route, even taking into account a modest fuel saving.
BJ is great fun, just a little muddy on occasions.

Have done both from Wakefield and it's horses for courses. Wakefield -> Dover/Tunnel -> Le Mans is too far in one go to be fun IMO, so we always end up with a night in a cheap Travelodge near the coast.By the time you've done that the Hull ferry works out the same price (esp. in a 20mpg V8 lol). You get a decent meal, beers etc and nice bed and hit land in good time for the drive down. It's Hull for us this year.
The downside is there isn't the atmosphere or wall-to-wall exotica you get at the Tunnel car park on the Thursday morning. You won't be the only Le Mans traveler on the Hull ferry but it won't be 80% Le Mans traffic like the Dover ferries and trains.
If it's your first/only time I'd get a Travelodge down south on Wednesday night followed by an early ferry or tunnel and just revel in the sheer volume of nice cars you'll see. It makes you feel part of the event.
Just to put you in the picture, people travel to this race from all over Europe and other parts of the world, but THERE IS ALWAYS SPACE.
You can buy General Entrance tickets at the gate on the day at the circuit
Nine times out of ten you can drive to Beasuejour campsite and again pay for a camping pitch on the day. Plan to get there on the Thursday Afternoon / early evening, watch a bit of evening practice runs by the Porsche curves and chill out.
If you want total piece of mind contact any of the tour operators that advertise here, they may offer you alternative camping areas, grandstand tickets, private camping areas etc, etc...
Have a good one
But don't sweat it, its not an issue getting into the circuit
Check out the Beer mountain website for information on all camping areas and there is also the club arnage travel guide too.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful.
Going to the tunnel and feeling the atmosphere with the amounts of serious metal about is a massive part of the appeal to me and driving amongst them. We wouldn't be in anything special at the moment but probably get stickered up anyway.
I'm seeing my mates tomorrow so will try sort something but it's a toss up between Le Mans and the Isle of Man on bikes and there's a divide at the moment and I'd do both!

There's at least four cars going over from Hull.
As has been said it's a little bit more costly than the channel, but a hell of a lot better, and does typically mean an extra day off work.
We only confirmed bookings last week, as we usually do, so try the ticket agencies there's bound to be something, but you may have little choice in which campsite and the liklihood of grandstand seats is slim.
Hope to see you on the boat, Wednesday night!

We go from Bradford, and get the tunnel. first time we went in 2007 went Dover - Calais on ferry. we might try ferry from hull this year. Where always last minute getting it booked and never have trouble getting sorted with camping, we always stay on houx annexe,as it's not to far to the track, and handy for the tram into town for the drivers parade.
