I've noticed this a lot on adverts that cars are advertised as 'One lady owner' , but when we as a nation are always joking about how bad female drivers are then why is it seen as a bonus when it comes to buying a car?

It's not. It means [massive generalisation]oil never checked, tyre pressures never checked, never warmed up properly and only ever used for 5 minute journeys between shoe shops and beauty parlours[/massive generalisation]

It certainly isn't a good thing to me.

[Stereotype]Lady owner = no servicing, cheap tyres, knackered clutch, abused gearbox, scuffs and dents etc[/stereotype]

I know it would put me off a bit having a car where the oil etc may have been neglected, the other day it took me 5 mins to explain to my mum over the phone where the coolant goes , but what I'm getting at it why advertise that it's had only a single female owner at all? Garages are the worst for doing it, surely it shouldn't be seen as a bonus having had only a female owner when we berate them for being bad drivers , is it the fact the public think that if its only had male owners that the car will have been thrashed?

Because most women drive less aggressively than most men?

Sure there are good women drivers but they are a small %.

Women treat clutches, brakes and accelerators as on/off switches. Nothing is linear. Factor in kerbed alloys and hidden damage to tyre sidewalls and the careful lady owner car suddenly looks abused and dangerous.

Just wondering how you know that.

Well for my Mk4 Astra it just meant it hadn't been used much. The clutch did separate after a very enthusiastic pull away once, so I guessed that had been abused maybe. But it did mean not much wear and tear otherwise and no stupid mods.
But always buy on condition, not stories from the seller.

A salesmen put forward the main selling point of a fiesta ST to me as it only had one careful policewoman owner!

I didn't buy it...

He drives on the roads and sees them?

Though in fairness I think it is a fairly small percentage of male drivers too...

I had two one lady owner cars - the first, a '96 Passat, was a lease car and had 73K in just over two years! I did 130K on it but made the mistake of using supermarket diesel. Otherwise, probably the best car I have ever owned (only major problems were failed dash PCB and bad ignition switch). That was followed by a one-lady owner Golf (2002 100PD estate) and it had 66k miles in 5 1/2 years. The only car that I have had to put a new clutch in (apart from oil leaks onto the plates on old BL cars). It was always needing something sorted - though had FSH from local dealer.

My mother's last two cars were bought new (both Metros), the second was 13 when she stopped driving and was in excellent condition. Ma was 77 when I bought the Passat and gave me lift to collect it. After going a sensible speed for 20 miles so that Ma could follow me on roads she didn't know, I opened up the Passat to daft illegal speeds. I had just got the garage doors open when the Metro came up the road - so she wasn't a stereotypical "litle old lady"!

My sister's first car was also a "little old lady's shopping car", a seven year old Austin 1100 with 11K on it. It was as stiff as anything - sluggish and difficult to change gear. However, after a year, it had double the miles and was pretty rapid! It was sold shortly after a bloke drove into the back of it when my sister was waiting to get on a roundabout!

The overwhelming majority of female drivers somewhat lack in mechanical sympathy for cars so I would say iit's not such a good thing...

One meticulous owner would be better and that could be either sex
