Well I've just bought some Almond milk from Tesco. Never had it before as far as I can recall. I also keep meaning to try some Celeriac. Not cooked that either!

Plenty more I'm sure.

I assume most PH'ers are broad-minded enough to have eaten every single food ever created, but I reckon a few may have slipped through this particular net.

Tried anything new recently? In particular, relatively common foods etc, just ones that for whatever reason have escaped your culinary radar!

Marmite. Think I'm in the love it camp but only on toast so far. Does it even go with anything else?!

Drizzle on roast potatoes and scrambled eggs/Omelettes also.

I wouldn't call it recent, but after trying Marmite for the first time 4 years ago I now buy the massive tubs in Costco and get through them with ease.

I tried a Melton Mowbray pork pie last year and hated it. Wound up throwing most of it away which hurt.

Spinach. O/H was diagnosed as 'low iron' so we bought some frozen spinach. I'd have it as a vegetable every dinner time, I love the taste.

It's good on hot, buttered crumpets - with or without cheese.

Gentlemen's Relish (no sniggering at the back). I like anchovies so I found it quite pleasant.

Frozen blueberries. Previously I always bought these fresh but now have no idea why when frozen are just as good and a quarter of the price.

Haven't tried it yet. Makes me feel like I should be baking a cake . . . or something. smile

I'll taste some now . . . hang on . . .

Well, quite pleasant actually, kind of almondy. smile

I'm on a fairly healthy diet at the moment, so slightly limited what I might have it with (such as most cereals are out at the moment).

Might try it with some porridge in the morning. I cook porridge weirdly, with a fair amount of salt to taste. Let the porridge 'set' in a bowl for 3 or 4 minutes having sprinkled a fair amount of sugar, layered on top, then finally a largish amount of ice cold milk. I reckon the almond stuff should complement quite well.

soft shelled crab.

iv tried most seafood but never these and had them at a thai restaurant before xmas and they are delicious.
they are very small crabs with bodies probably inch and half long and you eat the whole thing.
i would describe the "shell" as a kind of slightly crispyer chicken skin with an ever so slightly papery texture.
was served in a savoury salt and pepper sauce with a very slight touch of chilli.

i would definatly eat them again.

I've also tried bone marrow in Paris before, spread on toasted sourdough with salt and parsley. It was good but rather too rich even for a starter.

Other recent favourites are smoked sea salt - good on most things.

Curing kits from Weschenfelder online for brisket, salt beef and bacon.

Pigs' cheeks from Morrison's.

Lamb breast, trimmed, boned out and rolled, then braised in a wine-based stock long and slow - a bit like Tom K did on Food & Drink last week. Not new but worthy of a mention.

If I've wanted mince, I've been getting boneless half pork shoulders from Morrison's when on special offer and getting their butcher to skin it, then put it through their mincer. Works out far cheaper per KG than buying their pre-packed mince which is made of trimmings.

Pomegranate. Absolutely lovely, will be buying again. Bit of a ballache to get the seeds out but well worth it.

2 large tea spoons of marmite added to beef mince when making spagbol or shepherds pie gives it a deeper colour and richer taste
