I would guess there are PH'ers on here that know the answer to this....

I have a private plate on my car.

I have recently bought another private plate.

I'd like to transfer the new plate to my car whilst putting its previous plate on retention.

Does anyone know the combination of forms I need and how I do it?

Sincere thanks. smile

For a combination like that I would go to a DVLA office and talk them through it and bring all your V5's and MOT's with you.

Too much risk of it going wrong if you just send them forms in my opinion.

Good luck.

DVLA offices are shut now aren't they?

Just googled it and they all closed end of December. Oh dear.

Sorry I can't help further but best of luck.

Compltete a V317 to retain you current no. send in with the appropriate fees

Send in the Retention Cert (V778) for your new no. to have it put on your car.
Enclose a clear concise covering letter expaining exactly what you want do, you are dealing with DVLA.

^^^ Exactly

Just remember you are doing TWO transactions - one plate on, one plate off - and the "off" transaction will generate fees for retention. (I think it's £105)

All done. Thanks for that form number, I googled it and downloaded the PDF and printed.

Fee is now £155 to take off and retain for 3 years.... I've also included a letter as you suggested.

Not good. frown

It's why I asked here - because someone always knows.

My new private plate is V8 with my son's initials. He's only 12, but hopefully will have a V8 motor at some point..... He and his sister share the same initials so it could be hers too. smile
