I am sick of having my M5 vandalised. The latest is it being keyed on the off side rear quarter all the way along. Pissed off doesnt even come close.
I am looking for a cheap barge to waft around in. I either decide to sell the car or I only use it on good days, which is a shame.
So, any suggestions for a cheap barge to waft around in?

I think the only course of action is to move house, as selling the M5 will only make you miserable for the rest of your life.
This is the thing, I live in London, and the car has NEVER been touch. I spend my weekends in Aylesbury, and its been spat at, egged, drawn on and now keyed.Meltham Terrier said:
You have my sympathy, as work near Aylesbury and there are lots of scum around there..
Mate of mine has just bought a Legacy Outback 3.0 HB for a little over a grand and is a great car.
I dont want to spend any more at all really, if this is how my cars are going to be treated.Mate of mine has just bought a Legacy Outback 3.0 HB for a little over a grand and is a great car.
Where my GF lives is a good area, so I know its not being down around here, so its either the town centre or her parents area.

Just got myself an LS400 for £500 127k miles and just wants a wheel refurb. Absolute bargain and I love it.
If I could find one at that price I think I'd be happy. Wouldn't mind an E38 BMW either.slippery said:
For minimal chances of ruinous bork, at sub 1k prices, the LS400 is where the smart money goes.
I have been considering things like a Vectra etc, but just think I'd be better off with a barge.
At this end of th market it's about casting the net wide and waiting for the random bargain car. I'd include BM 5s (e34 and e39) and 7s (e38) the list, merc w124s, vaxuhall omegas, Lexus ls400s, Honda legends, Audi a6s and go from there. Just hope to get lucky with someone needing a quick sale in a market that can require a long time to sell a car!
Edit: £550 Honda legend 3.5 with 89k miles http://m.gumtree.com/p/honda/honda-legend-3.5-auto...
Gumtree is your friend here - at this value of car the seller resents paying for autotrader ads that will take ages to sell the car.

Sounds sensible. I wouldn't mind a Jag as well, but I think they're out of my range.SebastienClement said:

Rover 75
I thought this until I was asked to help a friend find a £1k estate car at Christmas. We saw three 75s in a row and all of them were falling apart, even the ones with low miles and service history. I've not known a run like that with any other model, perhaps we were unlucky, in any case I would not bother viewing a 75 again. Rover 75

Which is another issue, I could do with some reliabilityI sympathise greatly, I once had a car I loved (showing my age but it was a S11 Jag XJ6) and it was kept at all times (when not in use) behind eight foot gates... always locked. Some lowlife climbed over the gates just so he could key it!
Was recently in the position of looking for a cheap car, and there seems/ed to be an absolute dearth of the buggers! I looked at Volvo V70s, Bmw's Jags and they were all absolutely fooked! And they were at the top end of my budget (£1200). Ended up with a Renault Scenic which was owned by a (Renault mechanic) friend for £500, loads of tax and test and half a tank of fuel! It was not what I wanted, but it was (and remains) a good car. It's a high spec thing with twin electric roofs and loads of toys and they all work, which at this price point, is a definite exception rather than the rule.
If you are serious about getting a banger, then it really is, as has been said before, getting the best available regardless of make/model. No ones idea of a good PH friendly car will be any cop at this sort of price.
