Checking Oil

I am wanting some advice for a friend, He has a 57 plate Honda Civic Diesel and is wanting to check the oil level

Please can someone with one of these cars advise so i can pass the message on

Don't.


When the engines cold find the dipstick in the engine bay (Usually brightly coloured), pull it out, wipe it, put it back in all the way then pull it out again and ensure the oil is between the min and max markers.
